Community Highlights: Meet Jadon Goodman of Goodman Lawn Care

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jadon Goodman.

Hi Jadon, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story is, one day when I was 13, my older sister (Lyndsay) asked if I wanted to mow the lawn for her. I never really mowed the lawn before so when she asked, I was very excited to try something new. When I mowed the lawn I felt accomplished, I got to zone out everything and had thoughts to myself and only myself. I mowed her lawn for the rest of the summer and got some of her neighbors to mow as well. Had a ton of fun making $60-$75 every week. I started coming up with plans on how I could make more money and how to create a bigger business. Soon the season ended and I couldn’t mow. All winter, I had to think about plans to make more money and create a larger business. Soon spring of 2021 came and I posted ads on apps and websites like next-door, Facebook, Google. Getting any work I could. I built my business up to 15-20 customers by April of 2021. I saved the money that was coming in buying more equipment like a blower, trimmer, edger.

By mid-May of 2021, I bought my first commercial mower a Scag zero turn that was $6,000, I bought a trailer that was $2000, then a backpack blower, racks for my trailers. Everything I could buy in my first official season as a business owner. I also bought things that would help protect my business like insurance. I would get money and spend it right back on equipment. By October of 2021, I was mowing upwards to 34 customers weekly and had built my business to the max level a 14 years old could build, at the end of the 2021 season I went from having a $120 push mower from Walmart to Scag zero turn, Honda commercial push mower, two trimmers and edgers, back blowers, nice utility trailer. I think when I look back on how I worked for everything, I have a sense of accomplishment. I’m so glad god stepped through the door and offered this career startup choice I can use forever in my life. I’m Jadon Goodman that is my story.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the challenges that I have gone through was transportation. Since I am only 14, I can’t drive by myself. I can drive with a parent but that’s about it. Thankfully my dad is able to drive me from property to property. He helps a ton like driving, getting fuel ready, helping me bid properties. Another obstacle is that when I started, I didn’t have any equipment only had a junky push mower that wasn’t a self-propel, it didn’t have power and I wasn’t able to change the cut length. I also had very little networking so it was hard to get myself out there and get customers – valuable customers. One of the ways I overcame of customers is I networked a group called student startup, student startup is a nonprofit org in Wichita, KS they help students like me start business’ and become entrepreneurs. Not just lawn care many other business.

Goodman Lawn Care (Wemowict.com) My business is has been established by a 14 years old entrepreneur, that has serviced the Wichita Metro area are services include: Weekly and Bi – Weekly Lawn Service, Leaf Removal, Core Aerations and Seeding, Weeding, Basic Landscaping, And basic snow removal. What sets me apart from others is that I am 14 years old and I am competing with the other big companies. One thing id like the readers to know is that I am Competitive In pricing and services, I am professionally trained and I’m Insured.

How do you think about happiness?
One thing that makes me happy in business is being able to look at what I’ve accomplished. When I get to look back at the yard, I just perfectly manicured, when I go online to invoice the customer and they pay it and add a 5% tip. That makes me happy. Mowing in general cures sickness and all your worries go away. You get to zone out and feel good.
