Community Highlights: Meet Tiffany Trejo of Black Label Candle Co

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Trejo.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Back in the Fall of 2018, I was in graduate school and stressed out. I started making candles as a way to break through the stress, when I was about to head to conduct my research, I started selling my hobby candles to fundraise for my trip. During this time, my husband and I learned about financial freedom and decided we wanted to begin our debt-free journey. In March of 2019, we officially launched Black Label Candle Company. It has been instrumental in paying off my student loans which were my biggest goal when launching the business. We have become a well-known modern home fragrance brand in Wichita and other Kansas towns.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Hahaha, I think every entrepreneur will tell you no. Of course, Covid hit in 2020, this actually helped to push us more online which has been great for the business however due to supply shortages, event cancellations, and the general feel of the pandemic, it was definitely a hard time to navigate. Every year, we are evolving and shifting into what we want the business to become. I am the primary person behind Black Label, my husband. Even helps often with labeling and markets and I have an employee, Rachel who handles content creation and administration duties within Black Label. Being an entrepreneur can be very isolating and there are constantly 100 things in the air but it has taught me so much about myself.

We are also extremely passionate about not clean air, we care about our customers and we believe that no one should have to burn candles that leave toxins in your air.
