Daily Inspiration: Meet Woody Carter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Woody Carter.

Hi Woody, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Topeka, KS. I graduated from Topeka High School and Benedictine College. In my junior year of high school, I had a severe concussion from a football accident that left me temporarily paralyzed and unable to speak. I was told that there was a possibility that I was not going to be able to walk or talk again. It was devastating but I was able to overcome the odds and finish a great high school and college basketball career.

Shortly after, I was given the opportunity to tryout for the Harlem Legends (a team of former Harlem Globetrotters). I have had the pleasure of touring with them for 18 years and counting. During that time, I worked in several industries trying to find my true career path. All of which, gave me the experience to be in the dream position that I hold today. I have been with HyVee Arena for almost 4 years now.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all…it took me a while to realize that the difficult paths shaped and molded me into the person I am today. There were so many “opportunities” that eluded me or went to someone else. It was only because there was something better.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the Senior Sales Manager for HyVee Arena in Kansas City, MO. I am tasked with bringing in events from a local to international level, marketing and handling the commercial leasing for the arena. I am most proud of the evolution of the arena. We have went from a multi-level gym space to an all encompassing event space in a matter of a couple years. Most notedly, we survived the effects of the pandemic and are continuing to grow. I believe that having God in my life and having the ability to communicate and connect with people on multiple levels puts me in the best position to be successful.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Knowing what my actions are for, makes me happy. From a business standpoint in sales and customer service or personally with being a husband, father, coach, trainer, athlete…experiencing my desired result keeps a smile on my face!
