Check Out Aly Baker’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aly Baker.

Hi Aly, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always loved any type of creating, whether it be cooking, painting, or DIYs around the house. I was browsing the aisles of a craft store about a year and a half ago and noticed a little resin starter kit. I thought it would be nice to coat a painting with and I fell in love after that. I started by making things for friends and family and then my hobby blossomed into a business!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, my community has helped me pave a very smooth path and I am so grateful for that! My dad owns his own business (Tint Master) and my boyfriend (DJ Nick Niemeier) is a local DJ so I’ve had a lot of help and advice from the business side of things. As for the creative side, I have a group of friends who I bounce ideas off of and they help me test new products. I am so thankful for my village!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
For those who may not be familiar with resin, it’s a two-part substance that creates a heat reaction when mixed together and hardens into a durable, plastic-like material. Resin can be poured into shaped molds or onto flat surfaces such as tables or artwork, plus so much more! It starts off clear but I add colored powders, acrylic paint, glitter, dried flowers, etc. to turn it into art.

Right now, I am a Jill of all trades when it comes to resin work. I make coasters, trays, accessories, wall hangings, Christmas ornaments, you name it!

I am working towards specializing in art work and wedding keepsakes. I’m currently making a friend a piece of art for her home in her wedding colors. I can’t wait for her to have a beautiful, tangible, and unique memory of her big day!

I’m so proud that people want to give my creations as gifts and display them in their homes.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along the way is to always be able to adapt. Things may not always go the way you want them to, especially when starting a small business on your own. You just have to roll with the punches and make the best out of whatever comes your way!
