Inspiring Conversations with Kamia Kindle of SPG Web + Marketing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamia Kindle.

Hi Kamia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I grew up in the small business world as a child alongside my dad. It was a fun thing for me. I would stay up on school nights starting at the age of 12, working on AOL dial-up putting together proposals, graphics, and charts for him because he could not type. I loved every bit of it. As I grew older, I was just intrigued by business in general. I feel like my grassroots come from my high school, Lincoln College Prep. I gained so much there and truly found who I was and that translated into my college years.

I graduated from DeVry University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems and my love for developing websites and apps began. I worked in corporate America immediately after college in the email marketing arena for a large profile organization… for four years. Soon after Soda Pop Graphics (SPG Web + Marketing LLC) was born. I started out doing a lot of email marketing campaigns: The design and HTML/coding for them on my own, building websites and brands for businesses everywhere. That was almost 18 years ago. And here we are today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
If anyone in business says it’s been a smooth road, I question if they’re actually in business. It has not been smooth, but it’s been so GRATIFYING. Some of my most memorable struggles came from a lack of communication with my customers. Communication is a top priority for my marketing agency.

Clients just want to know the status of their projects and honesty. Honesty goes hand in hand with integrity. That was a struggle for a while. Of course, it sounds good to say, “You’ll have your files tomorrow” or “We will launch your site by Friday”… but is it realistic? I learned better processes, planning, and strategy to keep my company honest. It keeps OUR clients happy.

Other struggles included not being prepared for setbacks, self-financing the entire thing, and finding team members who genuinely understood the focus of what our purpose is as an agency.

Even through challenges, I still wake up happy to work in my agency like it’s my first day at the office.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

How do you think about luck?
I don’t believe in luck! I believe in purpose. I live a purpose-driven life and I own and operate a purpose-driven business. I believe that good things come to those who operate within their OWN PURPOSE. I know specifically for me that I have a purpose on this earth to help get others’ ideas and businesses off the ground. I have been called to speak positively to entrepreneurs and encourage them along the way.
