Inspiring Conversations with Doug Stine of Stine-Nichols Plumbing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Doug Stine. 

Hi Doug, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
We started Stine-Nichols Plumbing towards the middle of 2014. Having lived and worked in the Kansas City area for most of my professional career, it has certainly been inspiring to see so many small businesses grow and flourish over the years. With over 40 years of experience in the plumbing industry, I’ve strived to create a small business that not only provided reliable and long-lasting repairs, but also one that truly was transparent with everyone we worked with in this awesome community here in Kansas City. 

Now that we’re 7 years in, we’ve been honored to have had the opportunity to help thousands of fellow Kansas City residents with all of their plumbing needs. Whether that be residential service calls, commercial projects, or even new construction jobs, it’s been a fun journey! 

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s safe to say that no matter what industry you’re in, there are always going to be some obstacles along the way. After all, that’s simply part of the experience, right? Over the past seven years, I feel proud that our team has been able to implement new technology and adopt better techniques for doing our normal jobs. Not to mention, 2020 and 2021 have thrown many small business owners a giant curveball with the global pandemic. In the end, have there been challenges along the way? Yes. Nonetheless, it’s all about how you react to those obstacles and ultimately learn from them. 

As you know, we’re big fans of Stine-Nichols Plumbing Inc. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Stine-Nichols Plumbing is a full-service plumbing business based out of North Kansas City. Started by two life-long plumbers, we take pride in taking care of just about everything plumbing-related. Water heaters, sewer lines, faucets, gas lines, freestanding tubs, you name it! We are truly proud of the team we’ve built here at Stine-Nichols and all of the hardworking professionals that take pride in what they do each and every day. At the same time, we’re thankful for all of our awesome customers that have trusted us to resolve their plumbing problems.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Teamwork. If you truly want to do something special, chances are it’s going to take a group effort. As I mentioned in a previous question in this interview, we’re lucky to have so many passionate professionals on the Stine-Nichols team. From our service technicians and new construction plumbers to the sales staff and all of our awesome subcontractors, it has been fun to see the team grow over the years.
