Today we’d like to introduce you to Leroy and Rodnisha Blaylock.
Hi Leroy and Rodnisha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
The start to Kiylee Kakes was October of 2019. At the time, we both worked full-time jobs. One day he called me and asked how I would feel about starting a funnel cake business. I honestly didn’t know what to say at the time. We then tried making them which led to us selling them on weekends out of our home for about a year. We decided to name the business after our only daughter Kiylee. Sales were getting better until we were reported and forced to shut down by the health department due to operating out of our kitchen. We were unaware that we could not sell from our home. Going through that trail in the middle of a pandemic pushed us to work harder to get our food trailer. It took us a while, but we finally found a little trailer that needed a lot of work. Once our trailer was remodeled, we instantly started booking events to get our name out there. We had a little over 700 followers on Facebook for a while to now having over 9000 followers. Since then, we have been booked for events up to two months out all over Kansas and Missouri. We even have people reaching out to us from different states wanting to try our Kiylee Kakes. We are so blessed to have the love and support from so many people and we can’t wait to see what God has planned for us next!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been smooth at all, but having a spouse working with you makes hard times easier to get through.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Kiylee Kakes; We are the owners and we specialize in making gourmet funnel cakes and other deep-fried treats.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I think we’ve all learned since this pandemic that nothing is guaranteed, even jobs. There are so many people that lost their jobs and positions. Going in business for ourselves gives us security in knowing that our job is not in someone else’s hand.

I am a huge fan of Kiylee Kakes. It’s unfortunate that Facebook forced their Facebook and instagram to shut down after they reached over 10,000 followers. You can still visit Kiylee Kakes website to find out where they’re popping up to next. If you haven’t tried Kiylee Kakes you should!
