Life & Work with Inna Khan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Inna Khan.

Hi Inna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Photography was always a part of me. One of my bright childhood memories is when our family friend came for brunch at our house. He had his camera and took a few family pics. Those were black and white pictures, and they were in a very natural family environment, my mom cooking omelet, and a few pics of us eating breakfast at the table. When he printed and brought these photos back to us, I thought, “How cool it is to capture a moment like that? One day, I want to be able to do the same!” I asked the photographer several questions about how the camera works, how to develop a film, and print the photos; I was fascinated by photography from day one. Fast forward several years later, during my college days as I was moving to a different city, I wanted to take some of my family photos as memories with me. Going through our family photos, I came across the same old Sunday brunch pics, and was amazed once again! These photos brought me back to that sunny Sunday brunch and cozy morning with my family 🙂

Then in 2002 when my first was born, I got my first camera to keep memories of my baby as he grew. Every trip and occasion, I always had my camera with me. I constantly have tons of photos printed, in albums, and on my phone. I even moved these photos with me as I moved across continents. My friends know me as a person obsessed with perfect photos of the moment! LOL.

I got so involved in photography that I started taking online training and enrolled myself into photography courses at a college. On my birthday, my supportive husband got me my first Pro camera 🙂 and it all started becoming obvious that photography is my passion.

A few years ago, while eating my Sunday brunch, that same memory came to my mind, and I thought, “Maybe I can help other people capture their best memories that bring joy upon seeing them and smiles to their faces.” In that moment, I decided to start Inna Khan Photography.

This is where I am today, but my journey is just starting! I love learning and expanding my photography knowledge; there are so many aspects from composition, to light, to posing and techniques, not even mentioning running my own business.

Regardless, I wouldn’t trade it for the world! I feel truly blessed every day that I get to pursue the passion I love most and fulfill my lifelong aspirations!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’d say my biggest challenge is time, not enough time to challenge my creativity. There are so many things I want to do, so many ideas and projects in my head that I just need an extra 6 hours in a day:)

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I always loved beauty and capturing it. I do believe that every person is beautiful in their own way and try to capture their beauty in my photos. When taking photos, I try to capture the essence of whatever it is that I’m photographing, and I think that authenticity is something that sets me apart from others…

I specialize in editorial style natural light Portraits, Fashion, and Lifestyle photography. I especially love senior photo sessions. I love getting to know them better and hearing about their college plans and aspirations.

My most proud moment was last year capturing the senior pics of a friend’s daughter, who is little shy and not so open to photo sessions. I was nervous to start with, but the session came out so well and everyone was able see her real, true beauty— the smiles and happy moments in life that would otherwise not be displayed so openly. I felt like I witnessed something really special that day.

It is the best feeling when my photos bring people joy and allows them to be open in front of the camera,

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
KC provides all four seasons and many locations with beautiful parks, small towns, downtown, and big fields for natural light photography, almost year-round. This helps me fulfill the needs of my clients with a large set of locations based on their preferences. As for dislikes, I would say location of Kansas City. Being in the middle, it needs more time to travel and there are not so many direct flights from KC.
