Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Surry.
Hi Alicia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been a beauty and fashion enthusiast since I was a little girl. Since I was 12 I would do my friend’s hair for school dances and functions and doodle wardrobe designs and ideas in my downtime. After high school, I attended an International Academy of Design & Technology-Chicago and Detroit for Fashion Marketing & Merchandising. I eventually became a single mother and couldn’t juggle motherhood, school and a job so I put school on the back burner and worked a full time assembly job.
In 2018, after quitting my job in the auto industry of 12 years I decided to take on the beauty industry and enrolled in cosmetology school at Ea La Mar’s beauty and barber college. While in school my vision for my career was clear and I knew right away that hair and image consulting would be my path. After graduating from school Crowned & Taylored was born and I was an assistant at Luse Hairs Salon, It was such a great experience to be surrounded by powerful encouraging women that helped me step into my purpose. I am now located in my own studio in Blue Springs.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
“Nothing worth having comes easy” is the quote that comes to mind about my journey. I’ve learned so much about myself while enduring the challenges of being an entrepreneur. Like a lot of other entrepreneurs, I’m kind of figuring everything out on my own. I wear multiple hats as an entrepreneur, most times it is fun and exciting doing all these things that fuel your business but it is easy to get burnt out. There were times when I would question my abilities, talent and faith.
At those moments, I would lose confidence in myself and in turn it would reflect in my work. I now understand my strengths and stand in them and also I finally understand the importance of having those mental health days. I began investing more time and money into myself and I’ve also created a self care routine and outsourced jobs. This has allowed me to have more balance and focus.

Crowned & Taylored is a Holistic Beauty and Image Consulting Studio. It’s a place to make people feel better and more confident about themselves. I am a multifaceted beauty & image consultant. I am able to assist others in defining what it is that makes them feel beautiful. By providing beauty and image services such as noninvasive body sculpting, select hair services/wardrobe session services and integrating my reiki practice I am helping others to define their own beauty from the inside, out.

Our mission is to provide a more loving, personalized and upscale approach to Personal Image consulting through exceptional skills, creative and professional abilities. What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
