Meet Jessica Peltzer & Kristina Tripp of The Little Teepee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Peltzer & Kristina Tripp. 

Hi Jessica Peltzer & Kristina Tripp, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We met 5 1/2 years ago after one of our elementary school’s family nights. We were instant friends and realized immediately how much we had in common! We are both Iowa girls and Hawkeyes, have 3 daughters the same ages, and love planning every detail of the perfect party. We both planned glamping birthday parties for our oldest daughters a few years ago and could not believe there was not a local company servicing this genius idea. Fast forward a few years later and our youngest daughters were going to be starting kindergarten. We did a lot of research on this concept in the UK and Australia because we could not find many in the United States. The companies we did find in the U. S. were on the coasts and mainly in California and Arizona. We knew this was a perfect fit for the two of us and Kansas City so we were off and running! 

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There are, of course, challenges to any business but we feel very blessed that we have not had any trouble navigating all that has come our way. Our two biggest “challenges” have been what have propelled us forward. Like the rest of the world, we could never have predicted our launch would be in the middle of a pandemic. Initially, we put the brakes on unsure if it was appropriate to launch. But we knew now more than ever people still needed to celebrate and make memories together . . . even if it was just with their immediate family. 

The Little Teepee has been absolutely embraced by Kansas City. From the moment we launched, we grew so much and so much faster than we anticipated. But that is a wonderful problem to have! It forced us to hire a team less than 3 months into our launch. We hoped to find a couple ladies that would love this business as much as we do. We have been blessed with an amazing team and are proud to send any one of these ladies to any of our clients. 

As you know, we’re big fans of The Little Teepee. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand? 

The Little Teepee is an indoor and outdoor luxury glamping service. Our goal is to create the most magical sleepover experience. We come to your home to set up, stage, and style your event. One of the best parts for any parent is we come back the next day and tear the entire party down! We have over 25 themed styles and can customize any theme. We take it one step further and also offer themed snack packs, spa boxes, and customized themed shirts as party favors. We partner with numerous locally women-owned businesses to help our clients coordinate any additional services they would like to complement their glamping experience. We take great pride in creating the magic so our clients can create the memories. 

This summer we added our outdoor glamping experience and with cooler temps finally rolling in it has been a hit! This allows clients to still have their modern conveniences (think bathroom and kitchen!) while still having an outdoor experience in the comfort of their own backyard. 

Something people often do not realize is the two of us take on every aspect of our business! From dreaming up all of our themes to managing our reservations, photography, designing and maintaining our website, laundry and sanitizing, coordinating our team, payroll, tax work, you name it! We wear m a n y hats! 

What sets us apart and something we are very proud of is who we are. We are both authentic, genuine, honest, and extremely hard working. We are very proud of the brand we have built but even more proud of the memories we are helping people create with the ones who mean the most to them. In what has been and continues to be a very hard time for so many (for a multitude of reasons), we are so grateful that Kansas Citians trust us to help them create these magical moments. 

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Without a doubt, putting a new idea out there makes you vulnerable and that is always a risk. But the risks worth taking are the ones that you are passionate about. Be intentional. When you make decisions and take actions based on what is important to you and do what you wholeheartedly believe in, people not only can see it but they can feel it too. We are both incredibly supportive of each other which is why the “risk” we took has always felt like a reward.
