Today we’d like to introduce you to Britt Groves.
Hi Britt, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a tattoo artist at The Bulletproof Tiger Social Club in liberty mo. I’ve been a licensed artist for 4 years. The owner of the shop Noah Holtman has tolerated me for almost three and a half years that I think what I love most about the job is the people I meet. The stories I hear or the journey they are on. It’s always so different.
The art I produce is me in a nutshell. I love the art of tattooing and how there is no forgiveness if you mess up. I love how something, I design and put on someone’s body can change the way they feel about themselves or how it can close a chapter in their book, or express who they are without saying anything. I love how such a small piece of art can open people’s eyes to possibility.
I have a long way to go.
I’m constantly learning and growing. Constantly critiquing my own work and am hungry for more knowledge. I try and stay humble and remember that there is always someone better.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Never a smooth road right. We are all in the same hell, just battling different demons. I won’t sit here and say that my speed bumps and roadblocks are worse than anyone else’s. I will say that when you think you can’t keep going and all your doors are closed.
Just put one foot in front of the other and keep moving. Build your life on small wins. Small wins build large accomplishments.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I color on people for a living. Lol. I don’t have a particular style. I enjoy all styles of artwork. Lately, I’ve been doing a ton of watercolor and people seem to really enjoy it. Flowers and vibrant colorwork, I guess are what I’m known for. What I’m most proud of… besides my children I guess would be the fact that I’m still learning. I’m still hungry for growth not only in my craft but in life.
As far as what sets me apart, it’s not something I do specifically but we as a shop offer the most comfortable inviting atmosphere to get tattooed in. We establish a relationship with our clients that allow them to feel as if they are at their second home. Our shop is different. Come see for yourself.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
The best advice I have is if people tell you that you can’t achieve something, find a way to do it twice and take photos. Success is the biggest slap in the face to the people who doubt you. Also just be a kind human. The best relationships are formed off just being true as a person and being respectful and kind. Kindness will go so far.
