Today we’d like to introduce you to Keleigh Crouthers.
Keleigh, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Absolutely! So for the last two years, I’ve been on a self-discovery journey and by the middle of 2019, I’d been working a dead-end restaurant job for about four years. I was ready for a change but didn’t know which direction to go or what I could see myself doing- all I knew was that didn’t want to dislike my work-life anymore.
So through many conversations with people close to me, I decided to go back to school for esthetics and also take additional courses for an emphasis in microblading brows. I didn’t know a thing about skincare but knew it was something new that I could make my own. Because microblading is such a niche thing, I rented my own studio inside a yoga studio to perform services pretty much immediately so I could get to work!
And then the pandemic hit. Although plans had to be altered a bit, I’m currently still in full swing ahead and work at an amazing salon and spa in Lee’s Summit where I’m surrounded by amazing and inspiring women.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Sooo pretty much immediately after signing the lease for my studio, Covid-19 hit. I was able to work maybe two weeks and then closed my doors for eight weeks until I felt it was okay to begin working on people again. This time was especially rough but great for my self-discovery as I had a lot of free time just hanging out with my dogs.
Through this time in quarantine, I picked up roller skating more regularly and eventually moving on to park skating. Ya know, like those really cool-looking people that do crazy jumps and flips at the skate park? That was me for about four days, and then last of October I broke my ankle in three spots and was once again forced to close my doors for about twelve more weeks. But hey, it’s okay! Struggles make for really interesting stories.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Licensed Esthetician that specializes in microblading and all things brows, preventative skin care, and at-home regimens, and am an Acne Specialist. Right now though, I’d say I’m most known for my semi-permanent faux freckles and providing amazing massage during your facial! I don’t know very many other artists who offer faux freckles so I love being able to offer that service.
The relationships I have with my clients are my main priority. Gaining their trust builds the foundation for delivering the best results tailored to each of their needs. I love helping everyone that comes to me feel comfortable in their own skin in one way or another.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Just keep going, honestly. There have been so many times I’ve compared myself to others and wanted to give up because it would be the easier thing to do but the more you show up for yourself, the easier it gets. I don’t know-how, it just does!
