Hi Laurice, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a licensed professional counselor and have a huge passion for supporting clients on their journey to healing, wholeness, and improving their well-being. I developed my candle business Spark A Vibe Candle Co around the need and importance of intentional self-care practices and mental health awareness. I’ve always had a love for candles so creating a brand that connected with my passion was the foundation and purpose for my mission of starting my business. The past year and a half was immensely uncertain, so candle burning had become my therapy. I was committed to creating a calm and inviting atmosphere in my home because everything else seemed so chaotic in the world. I decided to dig deeper and learn about the process of making candles and which scents could improve your mood. I started hand pouring candles initially as a hobby in my kitchen and found it to be very therapeutic. I later discovered the effectiveness that my candles had on soothing and reducing anxiety and stress that myself and others were experiencing. It quickly evolved into a business and when I lost my job in December it was God’s way of closing one door and opening up a gift that I didn’t know existed. I dove headfirst into the opportunity for entrepreneurship. I have been able to allow my family, friends, and clients experience the holistic healing of aromatherapy and to gain more knowledge of mindfulness of self-care.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a new entrepreneur definitely comes with its share of challenges. I’m the sole owner so being the creator and visionary running all the behind-the-scenes tasks can be quit the charge. I try to make sure to pencil in my own self-care when things get hectic. Another struggle that came with managing my own candle business is not receiving consistent pay, my earnings are based on the amount of candle sales which can fluctuate from month to month so I have to budget accordingly for the slow periods. I also am without a storefront so having a business where the physical product is something that the consumers want to smell can alter the online market. I have to work really hard to find creative ways to get my products in front of consumers to maximize my exposure, improve face-to-face interaction, and provide consumers with an opportunity to get to know and love myself and my brand. I attend frequent vendor events and although they are typically a fun time vendor events can be time-consuming and are often a hit or miss. The candle industry is also booming and a highly competitive space so I spend a large amount of time analyzing the market and figuring out where the demand lies. I’m always working to go above and beyond to make sure my brand stands out with attention-grabbing vessels, unique fragrances, packaging, and by having a mission with a purpose. Cost can rack up because I aim to have a luxury feel for my candle line so things get a bit pricey. Lastly getting consumers to write reviews can be difficult, I get tons of verbal feedback on how much people love my candles but getting them to actually write a review or create a post is tough! So, to all my customers please remember to write a review it makes a huge difference in growing my business!

We also have a refill program that allows you to repurpose our luxury glass products, by doing this you’re making a positive impact on the environment. You can reuse our candle jars as a vase, to hold cotton balls, jewelry, or whatever the vibe inspires you to do.
Every aspect of our candles has been carefully researched, tested, and approved to produce the highest quality products possible. In addition to natural soy wax, our candles feature lead-free cotton wicks, braided and hand-selected to lessen petro-carbon soot for a clean, non-toxic burn. All of our candles have smooth tops and come in unique elegant vessels.
Every candle is crafted, poured, and packaged by hand in the smallest quantities to ensure the best craftsmanship possible. Once poured our candles cure for several days to set the wick and fragrance. Each batch is burn tested to ensure the highest level of quality before shipping and delivery to you.

What matters most to me is that I make quality products and that my customers make intentional choices to engage in self-care, and gain mental health knowledge. My focus is to create products that people find beneficial in sparking a vibe and igniting their own creativity and uplifting their mood.
