Check Out Carol Bliss’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carol Bliss.

Hi Carol, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my photography business 16 years ago in my home. My love of photography is what prompted me to do that and also my boys were in middle school at the time and I needed something to fill my time. Growing up, I was always the one in the group taking pictures. I had a camera from a very young age and never went without one to this day. I say it’s a God-given talent, I just get it when it comes to taking pictures. It would be hard for me to teach the skill since it’s a “spiritual calling”. I now own a studio in Overland Park and it’s amazing. I have an indoor studio as well as an outdoor space that has endless backdrops. I specialize in High School Seniors, Professional Headshots, Modeling/Acting Headshots and Family Sessions. I also started a new business, The Vogue Party. It’s a “Girls Night Out” event like no other.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wouldn’t say there were struggles, it’s been more of a slow ride to the level I’m at now. When you have a family and other distractions in life, it can interfere with growing the business.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My love of photography comes through with every picture I take. The whole process of taking the picture, editing them and then selling has taken me the 16 years to perfect. There are no high-pressure sale sessions at my studio. I don’t try to oversell but I do value my work and my pricing reflects that. Of the two other studios in my area, I’m by far the least expensive but my work is as good as theirs if not better. At my level and having an actual studio, I cannot be compared to the amateur photographer or the person that does it on the side. Those types of photographers give everything away and do not value their work.

I connect with my customers in such a positive way. I make every person feel comfortable when they are at my studio. I treat each person as an individual and listen closely to their feelings. There is a lot of laughter and comedy during my sessions!

I’m most proud of my new business The Vogue Party. It’s a girls night out like no other! I’m building this part of my business and currently looking for other photographers to join me in this exciting new adventure!!

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I want to continue on my upward trend with making more money and gaining more customers. With my Vogue business, I want to grow that throughout the area and into other states. I hope to sell that business in the next five years!
