Today we’d like to introduce you to Keegan Cathcart.
Hi Keegan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I recently became a Real Estate Agent this summer. Being an agent at 25 means I am one of the younger workers and have to prove myself.
I’m super competitive so “waiting” to learn and earn money isn’t really an option to me. Especially in the Kansas City, being a realtor means do your time and get clients and with that means you’ll eventually get recommended to more and more clients.
What I had to tell myself was “Why do I need Time?”, “What if I could somehow put myself out there and get noticed IMMEDIATELY?”
I recently started the “KC BEST AVAILABLE HOMES” page on Instagram and Facebook. Everyday Mon-Fri I look up the best homes for sale in KC. based on size, price, school district, etc.. post them on the page and then give the post my contact info and let people come to ME!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The obstacles in real estate, or any other business with being an entrepreneur is being CONSISTENT. You can’t take time away. You have to make meetings, make calls, keep forming relationships, keep up your marketing.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What I’m known for in the real estate world in KC is I guess being the “fun realtor”. I continue to learn every day about the real estate industry, but I am young, fun, outgoing. It definitely gives me an advantage for using social media rather than more experienced agents that do most of their work by word of mouth. Don’t get me wrong the older agents can still be fun and have a lot of knowledge. When I created the “KC BEST AVAILABLE HOMES” page I wanted a way for the home buyer and just normal people to be able to see different homes that are for sale without going to Zillow or realtor.com. I took it on myself to put in the work and now I’m starting to reap the reward.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I’m learning lessons every day, but one would be the constancy of continuing to post and reach out to people. Somedays, I’ll get down on myself because I’ll put all this work in researching and posting and calling, etc. And, I won’t get anywhere with a client, but when it does pay off from the page, I think “I really started something that any realtor could have done as well, but they didn’t.” I was creative enough to think ahead and I think that’s what a good entrepreneur would do.
