Meet Ashley Walburn of HOME holistic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Walburn.

Hi Ashley, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started practicing yoga after I had my second son after a challenging birth and a very hard postpartum time, one of my girlfriends came over and took me to my first yoga class. My milk came in during the hot yoga class and I hated every second of it… And I felt better when I got home. I felt less depressed my capacity had increased and I felt like myself. So, I went back again and again and again and eventually had two more children and decided to become a prenatal and postpartum yoga teacher. My first experience teaching yoga was at Darling Yoga and taught there for the first eight years of my career. I became a birth Doula and a childbirth educator and created my own childbirth course during that time. Eventually, my dreams became clearer, and knew it was time to create a yoga studio and a holistic center just for mothers. And HOME Holistic was born. We support mothers in Yoga, through childbirth education, as Birth Doulas and Postpartum Doula, we support them through an amazing group of wellness practitioners and therapists. I’m honored for my journey and to be a part of this beautiful work. I am also a therapist and I specialize in birth trauma and postpartum depression.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It’s not been a smooth road but it’s been an inspirational one. Our business is 100% grown through referrals and most of the time that’s been more than enough. We believe that the right people find us… Covid has been the hardest thing that my business has encountered but we’re getting through and growing again and birthing with more families than we ever have before. Other challenges are new competition. We have found that our work is inspiring others to follow and create similar businesses, it’s an honor to be a trailblazer but it was easier when we were the only one.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about hOMe holistic?
HOMe holistic is a very special place. It’s where mothers can come and reboot. Prepare for birth and heal from birth. We specialize in pregnancy postpartum as well as all life stages for women. What sets us apart from others is that we are all experts in supporting mothers. Everyone at HOME Holistic is a woman who supports women. My birth Doula partner is Jessica Sexton and because of her support and her ability to jump in and go to a Birth while I run hOMe holistic or run hOMe holistic while I go to a birth is such a big part of what makes us work… Running a business and being on call as a birth Doula is very challenging as well as raising a family but with the support of other women, I know I can count on any of them to pick up the pieces when I need them to! that’s what makes it beautiful. I also know that everyone that walks into HOME Holistic will be treated mindfully, fairly, and with love, compassion, and healing in a safe environment. We want everyone to know that we support all mothers and all their choices. When you walk into HOME Holistic it’s a judgment-free zone. It’s a place where mothers can share their experiences, and their fears, and their wounds, and be listened to buy the other women. Our yoga classes are different than other prenatal yoga classes as they are taught by Birth Doulas as well as prenatal yoga instructors. We prepare your body for birth and to have a healthier easier pregnancy. Our practitioners work collaboratively with each other to offer a truly integrative opportunity for mothers to grow and heal.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I believe the wellness community is growing rapidly. As we find ourselves in the midst of a very challenging time in the world… places that feel safe and where healing occurs is going to be more needed and more relevant than ever before…a place for mothers and their children to reconnect and to reset it’s going to be more important and we are already seeing that shift.
