Meet The Blast Monkeys

Today we’d like to introduce you to The Blast Monkeys.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Kyle and I both grew up in Tonganoxie and met through cross country and swim team in late middle school/early high school. We both had an interest in music when we were younger but growing up in a small town, we didn’t know a lot of people that played music. We got along pretty well with our goofy sense of humor, and when we found out, we both played a little music it was over. We started jamming together during the summer of 17’ going into our sophomore year. We played with a few different people for a while until our friend Nick joined and band and soon enough, The Blast Monkeys was born. We started releasing music during our junior year and have been ever since. We’ve gone through different musicians over the years but Kyle and I have always stayed strong and plan on making a lot more music.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We’ve been through harder times for sure. When we started playing, no one really took us seriously. Our first releases got a lot of mixed reviews to say the least. The whole journey has been a process of progressing, plateauing, and pushing forward. We started out really bad but with time and practice, each song and release got better. We’ve had trouble playing live with an inconsistent lineup and it’s always hard when you lose members of a band.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I write the songs starting with a riff usually and then going to lyrics later. Kyle is a phenomenal drummer and together, we come up with a lot of fun and creative instrumentals. We are always pushing ourselves to make better and better material and we’ve got a lot of drive to get us there.

What’s next?
Plans for the future would include releasing a lot more music, finding friends in the music scene, playing gigs, and going on tour.
