Today we’d like to introduce you to Bri Hopkins.
Bri, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When I was in growing up, teachers would always tell me that I showed natural ability at understanding people. The only trouble was, no one majors in “good people skills,” and I didn’t see any “people professionals” at the career fairs. So after four years of liberal arts school and a bachelor’s degree later, I did my best to squeeze myself into a box labeled “sales” and started my career. During that experience in “corporate America”, I learned…
There is nothing wrong with being different, being creative, being yourself. Being in an environment that gives you a map and some pencils to “chart your own success” can be daunting if you do not know your own motivators. Sometimes, even bosses need a little structure from their team. The better you understand your boss and their behaviors, the more effective you can manage up, and the happier everyone is. You cannot expect anyone else to invest in you and your professional development more than yourself. Be your best advocate. The scariest and most rewarding thing is to believe in yourself and what you are capable of.
So in the summer of 2020, I decided to take all things I learned and start my own business as a coaching resource for young professionals looking to become whole-centered leaders. And it has been an adventure since!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a new business in the middle of a pandemic was not the smoothest road. The biggest challenge I faced, honestly though, was getting out of my own way. It was so easy to come up with excuses to push it off or stay in “research mode” because fully committing to my dream felt more raw and vulnerable than running through the streets in my birthday suit!
However, the pandemic really forced me to sit down, take a breath, look at my life so far and come to terms with the fact that there is no perfect time and while I didn’t have all the answers, I only needed enough to take the first step. And then the next step and the step after that. It has been the ultimate exercise of radically saying “Yes” to myself, something I love to empower all my clients to do.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m Bri, the founder of Golden Bee by Bri, LLC. I’m a dedicated coach on a mission to help my clients harness their unique superpowers! Together we help our clients to understand their behaviors, strengths, stressors, and inherent powers so they can show up and stand out in any setting. We do this by creating a customized coaching framework that incorporates both data from behavioral assessments, mindfulness practices, and more to initiate radical self-discovery, so our clients feel empowered to show up as their strongest and most confident selves every single time.
Typically our clients come to us because they want to feel confident in speaking their truth both at work and in their personal life. They are frustrated by the lack of direction in their professional development, feel stuck in their career or life path, or just lacking clarity overall. The best part is we meet our clients where they are at, so whether they are ready for a 3-month transformational program or more of a once-a-month accountability check-in, we can support them.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Like Best: This is a city of creativity and art! When I first moved to KC in 2016, I was drawn to the city for its vibrant art scene, and I have not been disappointed. My favorite is seeing the different murals pop up around downtown and checking out the amazing restaurants in the metro. Food and art are the two things that speak to my soul!
Like Least: The construction on Main Street and Broadway and on the Plaza…
