Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghan Turner.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Shortly after my first daughter was born, I started my graphic design business where I helped other moms turn their dreams into realities. After my second daughter was born, I ordered my first camera since college and began snapping photos of my girls at home here in KC. While pregnant with my third daughter, (#girlpower house am I right?), I gathered up some courage and started taking photos for my family and friends – family photos, fresh 48, documentary-style images from parties, families living their lives, etc. My simple hobby has turned into a passion for capturing memories for others.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I wish I could say it’s been smooth sailing but I got exactly one session under my belt then Covid hit last year. Once everything started to open up again things were going great, but in photography, it’s always going to be a hustle and a struggle because it’s such a saturated field. I’ve learned that finding my joy in photography and really picking the sessions that feed my soul, it makes the struggles much easier to deal with.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in lifestyle photography, especially young families and newborns. I love coming into people’s homes and being a fly on the wall while they live their lives. As a mother myself, I’m never in many candid photos so being able to provide those to other families is all I’ve wanted. I’m most proud when I see one of my photos as someone’s profile picture, or when they send me a shot of my photos hanging in their home! I like to think that my particular style and my experience set me apart from others in the area.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My husband, 100%. He has supported me in every step of my career. When I told him I wanted to be a stay-at-home mom and quit my full-time job, he never had a second thought about it. When I started my graphic design business, he became my accountant. When I switched gears into photography, he was the one that gave me the push to do so. He moves his schedule when needed to accommodate my sessions and has been nothing but supportive. He is truly the best.
