Conversations with Sydney Daniels

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Daniels.

Hi Sydney, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
One day my wife and I were discussing our goals over coffee. We were discussing our goals and future plans. I was on a 2-week vacation before I was starting a new job so I had a lot of free time to draw and be with our son. I was realizing I wanted to have a business where I was my own boss, I could create my own hours, and I could be doing something I actually enjoyed. I knew I had really been loving the free time to create my art so I decided I wanted to try to sell my art on t-shirts. That was a few months ago, I now have a registered online business where I sell my art on t-shirts, joggers, phone cases, flip flops, and stickers. I’m still currently working a full-time job as a medical recruiter, but I’m hoping over the next couple of years business will pick up enough where I can produce new art full time for work.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been very bumpy. I had no clue how to register a business, where to buy products, where to get my art printed on these products, or how to promote my business. I’ve had a little success promoting on social media as well as leaving my stickers in local coffee shops. We’re still hitting bumps but we’re making progress.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I design graphic art that I offer to be printed on a variety of products. Everything I offer I’ve created myself so it is custom. No other store is offering these designs. My creativity and drive set me apart from others. I get an idea and I run with it, I don’t stop until I’ve achieved what I pictured; whether that be a goal or an art piece.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I’d say never give up. Don’t let other people’s opinions of your work/ideas get you down. I had a lot of people discourage me from starting my own business or try to scare me out of it because it would be hard. It is hard but it’s so worth it! Looking back each month and being able to see how much progress you’ve made. It takes a while but you’ve gotta be patient and continue to be persistent.
