Daily Inspiration: Meet Nick Swearngin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Swearngin.

Hi Nick, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I’m actually the 4th owner of the barbershop and I purchased it from my dad, John. The shop opened in 1941 and has been going strong since day one. We have always been involved in the community and charitable with our time and we wholeheartedly believe in giving back to the community that has supported us so loyally for 80 years. Many people over the years have said that at the shop we have our finger on the pulse of the community and we are on the plane to find out what’s going on in town.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Our business has always been pretty strong and we have been blessed to have a pretty smooth road along the way. We just do our best at doing the right thing and giving the best service that we can to everyone that walks through the door. Our customers aren’t just customers, their friends and even feel like family to us.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We take great pride in making folks that come to see us feel comfortable and provide a relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere all while giving them top-notch service and giving them what they have asked for through lots of questions to make sure we understand exactly what it is they are looking for. We are extremely proud of our reputation in the community. What makes us different from others in our business, the pride we take in our work, and taking the time to really focus on what it is that each person that comes to us is looking for.

How do you think about luck?
I wouldn’t say that luck has played much of a role in our business, in some businesses you really need the luck to be successful on top of what smart business moves you make, but in our business, you really need to be relational and customer service focused.
