Today we’d like to introduce you to Logan Freeman.
Hi Logan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Jefferson City, Missouri. It is a great place to live, but I always knew and felt that I was looking for more. More opportunities, more space, more ideas. Even as a young kid I stood out as an athlete, this led me to receiving a scholarship at the University of Central Missouri to play football. I had a great career there and was picked up by the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2013. I did not make the team though, and when I was cut I decided to go back to school and finish my graduate degree. At the same time, I picked up a job working during the day and going to school at night. During this period of time, I had a few things happen to me that really shaped my future. One of those things was losing over a hundred pounds and the other was sticking to an incredibly disciplined and focused schedule because of my work and school commitments.
I also lost my father to his addiction to drugs and alcohol. When I graduated, I had secured a new position with Jimmy John’s as the youngest franchise Consultant they had ever hired. This led me to move to Kansas City. After working there for a little over a year I decided it was time to take my skills to the entrepreneurial world. I started networking in Kansas City and found a small company at the time and joined with two other guys. I helped scale that company for two and a half years and ultimately left for a Director of Sales position at a medium-sized company here in Kansas City. After I was at this company for around 15 months I was fired. Another turning point in my life. When this happened I decided that it was time for me to take control of my financial and professional future. This is what led to starting my company in the real estate industry and where we are today.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
What I have learned is that to be successful in this business, and probably as an entrepreneur in general, you have to listen to the market that you’re in and be able to pivot quickly. What I mean is there are different niches inside of each industry. You have to know those niches and understand the macroeconomic environment that’s going to drive the microeconomic decisions you make on a regular basis. There are many factors that dictate what we do and how we focus in the real estate world, for example – it’s important to know what the debt markets look like so we can effectively project cash flows on our projects.
When the Coronavirus started to spread there was a lot of uncertainty in the financial markets and investor’s psychology. We had to overcome some limiting beliefs with our investors, and with ourselves, to be in a position to grab market share during this time. We were successful in doing so and are being rewarded for it now, but at the time it was not easy and took a lot of confidence in our fundamental investment thesis plus we had a solid group of investors who stood behind us, believing in what we set out to achieve.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
FTW Investments specializes in Commercial Real Estate investments through a business model called syndication. We source properties, often off-market, to benefit investors who value a measured, data-supported approach to improving properties and generating stable returns. Our special sauce is our team. The three principals at FTW Investments (Logan Freeman, Cory Tuck & Parker Webb) are seasoned real estate pros with the track record to back it up. Along those same lines, as a brand, we are most proud of the team we’ve assembled to make good on the ambitious goals we set for ourselves.
Whether you are brand new to real estate investing or looking to diversify, FTW Investments is founded on educating and then further informing our investors and building those relationships.
What’s next?
We are growth-minded, always. We see opportunities all around us and are staffing up to pursue our big dreams. We have some projects in motion that expand our footprint in the Midwest region. We will continue to do more of the same but as we mentioned before, keeping a pulse on the market may have us seriously evaluating other asset classes and investment strategies here very soon.
