Daily Inspiration: Meet Vivian Chen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vivian Chen.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I sparked interest in photography in April 2017. I met a ton of photographers and models in the KC area at the time, I didn’t pick up the camera until around September of 2018. I started off by being in front of the camera most of the time, but then I saw how creative you can get with capturing and editing photos.

From starting my photography business in September 2018 until now, it is amazing to see how far I’ve come and the solid client base I have.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. In July of 2020, I had a wedding to shoot on July 3 and then I got hit with Covid-19. I was scrambling around to find another photographer that could take my spot. That was really stressful!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I graduated from St. Luke’s College of Health Sciences with my BSN in May 2017. I work as an oncology nurse at a local hospital here in Kansas City and I am chemotherapy certified. I am also in graduate school in the Family Nurse Practitioner program at the University of Central Missouri in hopes to graduate this December 2021.

English is my second language, so school was never easy for me. I struggled all throughout elementary school, middle, and high school. One thing I learned in college was you can do anything if you set your mind to it. I wouldn’t have been able to accomplish the goals I did without the support of my parents and my two high school teachers, Mr. Laughlin and Mrs. Rabbitt.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I love traveling, red wine, food, drinking coffee and tea, and I love love love spending time with my family.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story, be sure to check out some of my work.
