Life & Work with Jessica Belle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Belle.

Jessica Belle is a host, youth advocate, CASA, entrepreneur, Ministry School graduate and teacher in Kansas City, MO. Jessica began her career in youth advocacy almost ten years ago in Los Angeles. Her experience as a mentor has opened the door to allow her to speak up for the youth and communities who have been muted. She has had the opportunity to speak, host events, and connect with people from all walks of life to encourage them via blogging, public speaking, and her podcast “UnMUTE your Mic”.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Some of my biggest life struggles were going through a divorce a few years ago. I moved from LA to Kansas City and essentially had to rebuild my life. Other challenges I face have been working with youth from very hard backgrounds and trying to inspire them to be great despite the community that they are in or the upbringing that they have had.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am currently an early childhood teacher. Outside of that, I have my own podcast called “UnMute your Mic” it is a space where people come on and share things that they have overcome to inspire others. I specialize in youth advocacy, that means my goal in everything I do is that youth are heard, understood, and have a voice. I am most proud of the work that I do with youth because they are the future. I mentor young adults that have been or are incarnated, in foster or group homes, or have went through an extreme amount of trauma. What sets me apart from others is my ability to go to the places most won’t go and love the ones that most people deem unlovable. I specialize in letting everyone know that they have a voice and that every story matters.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I believe that if you want to be anything in life, you are going to have to take risks. Everyone who has ever made a true impact in the world had to step out of their comfort zone at some point. For me, the biggest impact that I have been able to make on other people was tied to me doing something risky, like going into a prison’ skid row, or group homes etc. All of these thinks were risks but it was directly tied to making someone’s life better. When you risk for something greater than yourself, it is always worth it.
