Meet Jon Freemon of JF Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jon Freemon. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Jon and Katy started JF Consulting (JFCO) in December of 2015. Although they’ve always had a heart for helping people, JFCO started as an arranged opportunity. Coincidences are one thing, but this was ordered.

Bookkeeping was the first service offered. A local Olathe pastor was in contact with a small church in Omaha looking for a bookkeeper. That local pastor contacted Jon. He knew Jon was in the middle of a career shift. Long story short, JFCO was born.

A very short 30 days later, we discussed adding a second service, tax preparation. Jon had a few years of experience preparing tax returns for family and friends. We wanted JFCO to provide a seriously great service so Jon joined one of the major tax preparation conglomerates. Jon spent one season working as the manager of a local office. This gave him a very good feel for the dos and don’ts of the tax preparation world. JFCO added tax preparation the next season.

Fast forward more than five years later. JFCO is now a thriving business assisting more than 500 people a tax season spanning Washington to California to New York to Florida. Another employee has even come on board to help manage the workload.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s likely that most small business owners have this exact same answer….no, the road was not smooth. Owning a small business can have beautiful and heart-wrenching moments, sometimes in the very same day.

The first year of business was like a hurricane. There was some sunshine, a storm, a moment of calm breeze, more storm and more sunshine. We learned so much, help a lot of people, and realized that this could grow into something great.
