Today we’d like to introduce you to Shadae Carr.
Hi Shadae, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Jesus. Jesus deserves all the credit for the “how” and the “why” I am where I am today. Without HIM I could never be where I am, who I am, nor who I am supposed to become as a woman, leader, or owner etc.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all haha. However, I think that’s what makes the journey most beautiful. I went through a lot of loss, self-doubt, fear, insecurities, and impatience. After college I felt the most depressed I had ever felt in life. I knew what I wanted to do, I knew what I was supposed to do, but I couldn’t figure out how to get there. That was frustrating. Once I realized I didn’t have to figure my life out, I was never actually in control and I didn’t have to be I was finally able to just live and not fight myself trying to survive. When you receive that kind of revelation, it makes the struggles of your unique journey all feel worth it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a certified birth and postpartum doula. As a result of Eleven.17 Mom and baby doula services, families receive above and beyond support, information, and preparation for labor, childbirth, and postpartum. I believe in building relationships with my clients and making sure the entire family feels included in the process of birthing new life. One passion Eleven.17 has is to service all mothers in need of support. This includes teen mothers as well. Working at a Maternity shelter I see firsthand the need to service, advocate and inform the young mothers throughout their parenting journey. Teen doula support not only makes Eleven.17 stand out from any other doula service but it fulfills purpose. Nevertheless, I love who I am and what I do for my community. More than anything, I hope to see more and more Mothers have memorable and stress free experiences and to see God get glorified through my service!
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
“You can’t pour from an empty cup.” In other words, before you try to take care of anyone else it’s a must that you take care of yourself. Make sure that you are physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually well or else the service you aspire to give will never be executed.”
