Hidden Gems: Meet Veronika Morgans of Marknology

Today we’d like to introduce you to Veronika Morgans. 

Hi Veronika, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
How does one briefly describe the entrepreneurial story? There are so many ups and downs, turns, wrong ways, successes, late nights, massive personal growth; the list goes on. 

I blame my parents for our entrepreneurial spirit. They have been living the entrepreneurial lifestyle since my siblings and I were young. They Instilled some key habits that have proven to be useful in our own journey: the ability to self-motivate, grit, self-reliance, problem-solving, and how to recover from failure. 

Growing up, my dream job was to work for the foreign service so I moved towards this goal by getting my Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science at the University of Louisiana and my Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering at the University of South Florida. It was in my last year of grad school that I started helping my brother Andrew Morgans with his side hustle, as it started to be more than he could accomplish alone. I was currently in grad school, working at a beach bar, helping Andrew with the business while also working with two nonprofit organizations involving refugees (perfect practice for the entrepreneurial life.) 

Once I graduated, I had to decide if I wanted to go overseas or move to Kansas City and help my brother grow the Company (or companies by this time.). The decision was easy: Move to Kansas City. It turned out to be the best decision of my life. 

We’re currently in our 8th year (don’t quote me on that one lol, time moves quickly) and are in the process of scaling (way harder than it sounds.) I currently operate as COO of Marknology and Co-Founder of Landlocked and employ 22 unique individuals. Marknology helps launch brands on Amazon and currently manages over 40 brands. We help advise our brands on everything from inventory management, shipping logistics, advertising, social media, branding and photography, search engine optimization, pricing, and brand protection. 

I have gotten to the place I am today with an extreme work ethic, keeping my eye on my  ”whys”, grit, continual learning, and surrounding myself with the most amazing and motivational people, who push me to be my best. 

My personal motto is: Make yourself Invaluable. 

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Do some people answer this question as,  ”yes”? 

Cash Flow: We are a “bootstrap” company so cash flow has always been a struggle, learning how to balance money and use it as wisely as we could. 

We come from a family with grit whose parents taught them to see the positive in all things which is why I believe we were able to get to where we are now. We weren’t used to a lot, so a lot wasn’t necessary. 

Labor: Plays right into this as another one of our challenges. Knowing when to hire, who to hire, and how to keep your talent is always challenging. While Amazon is over 40% of the ecommerce market, it is not taught in school, so our employees need to have a unique set of skills. 

Scaling: It’s always a challenge learning how to run a business, keeping your employees happy, training new employees, being HR and your own admin all while still doing the deep work that keeps our clients feeling connected and growing. 

It’s exciting to see what new challenges will come as we continue forward.

Storytelling is at the core of everything we do. The Amazon platform is no different than any other, in that selling products is still about storytelling and creating emotion with your buyers. Marknology, from its inception, has always placed a strong focus on branding features on Amazon from A+ Pages and Enhanced Brand Content Pages to Amazon Storefronts, Amazon Launchpad, Amazon Exclusives, etc. We are working with brands that have done it, are doing it now, and continue to dominate Amazon and their respective categories on the platform. With a focus on what Amazon offers brands instead of what they do not, we have optimized our strategies to make the most of every opportunity Amazon provides. 

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned so far is that it’s okay for me to fail and it’s okay for clients to be unhappy. I started with so much anxiety around both, that I would get knots in my stomach. It was my brother that taught me that nothing really happens when you fail. You’re going to fail. It’s inevitable. However, if you’re putting in your best effort, you mitigate as much as you can and move forward. The more you do this, the easier it becomes as cliché as it sounds. This skill has spilled over into every aspect of my life.
