Daily Inspiration: Meet Brandon Pennington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Pennington.

Hi Brandon, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started off doing satellite installations here in the KC area in my early 20’s. That experience resulted in becoming a contractor for a satellite company on the West Coast, which is where a lot of my experience was learned. A couple of guys (and girl) taught me everything I needed to know about running cables and trade techniques. From there, we acquired a contract to do Home Theater installations up and down the coast, which involved even more experience and gained knowledge.

Over the next few years, and relocating a few times, I had experience both as a technician and in management with most of the major telecommunications companies. Once I relocated back to KC, I felt I had enough experience to start doing small jobs on my own, so I started Arrowhead Services.

It took a little while to build clientele, but we gained a decent reputation and before long, we were getting involved in bigger commercial contracts, which allowed me to bring on a crew.

After merging with Deytech, which was owned by the guy that taught me basically everything I knew, we steadily built more and more clients that trusted our work, and that’s where we stand today. We never wanted to be the biggest company, but we wanted our work to speak for itself and build off of that reputation.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
With any new company in a competitive market, just starting out can lead to periods of downtime. We used that time to build relationships with companies that could use our knowledge and even branched out into different areas of trade…commercial construction cleaning, etc. We still utilize those areas as filler work and stay pretty busy year round.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We do anything Low Voltage. Cabling, home theater, security, satellite, structured cabling, CCTV, Point of sale systems, etc. If it involves wiring or cabling outside of full-blown electrical, we most likely do it.

We have prided ourselves on being reliable and professional. Always looking for those little things to set us apart from others in the industry, and more than willing to go above and beyond to make sure all of our clients are happy with us and our work. I’m extremely proud to say that we have ever had a damage claim, never had an injury, never had someone work for us that had a complaint. Sure, there have been mistakes made along the way, but with proper communication a resolution is always achieved.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
There’s always a certain amount of risk when venturing out on your own. All the knowledge and techniques in the world won’t stop certain things from happening, but if you are prepared and have outstanding communication, you can usually limit the risks involved. There’s always a chance on a job site that something may break, another trade has some bad luck that trickles down and affects everyone else…a General Contractor could mess up payments, etc…there’s always a risk involved, but preparation will normally offset the majority of them.
