Today we’d like to introduce you to Marianne Chance.
Hi Marianne, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was working in a very toxic workplace. So toxic that one of my coworkers decided to die by suicide. When I finally left, I was afraid to make another terrible choice for an employer. I decided to simply start my own business (how hard could that be). I knew how to do two things: manage and train. So, I decided that I would start a manager training company!
Now it’s seven years later and I’m going strong. So, so, many bumps along the way. I moved half my business to a new state, got a divorce, stumbled around in the dark trying to figure out specifically what I wanted to offer, and still feel driven to do more.
It’s funny. Starting a business fundamentally changed my makeup…and I can’t imagine doing anything differently.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Hahahahahahahahaha. No.
* For the first two years in business, I had no real product offering and think I made a total of $2,000.
* I had zero idea what the hell I was doing. I had to learn social media, selling, product design, etc.
* I still get caught up going down rabbit holes instead of focusing on what I do best.
* I thought I would go under when the pandemic hit so I had to learn about creativity and learn a whole new set of skills on the fly (online training).
* My schedule is maxed out so everyday, I struggle with life balance.
* Even though my schedule is maxed out, I still worry about paying bills.
* Wanting to do something and actually doing it are very different things…as my schedule is maxed out.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Work Warrior?
1. WW is a business that does team and manager training. The underlying theme is emotional intelligence and focusing on why we and others do the things they do. I also do manager coaching. Most of us learn to manage by a “trial by fire” way. Coaching helps managers actually learn how to do their jobs.
2. I’m known for being one of the top trainers…in America. My training are engaging, funny, and very real. I do my very best to create safety from the start. This ensures open dialog and an awesome experience. Also, I didn’t makeup what I’m known for. Those are all from testimonials :).
3. While I need to find a better thing that sets me apart, it’s me. I am my business and am learning that, like Beyonce, I only have 24 hours in a day. And if I want to scale, I have to start moving towards passive income.
4. Most proud of? I’m a legit international speaker. I always say I found my home on stage in Belgrade. It’s when I learned I had a talent that could take me halfway around the world, and I had a message people wanted to hear. Mind-blowing. Life-changing.
5. I want people to know that my clients have my heart. I believe in them and their teams, probably more than they do. They humble me (which is hard to do) and once they’re a client, they become family.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Hmm. The first one that popped up was the three summers I spent in Arapahoe, NC. I attended a YMCA camp. My mom was a camp nurse so I got to attend for free. It was hard because instead of staying in the cabins with other girls, I stayed in the “employee” housing with my family.
This might not seem like a big deal, but when your in your teens, being different was the last thing you wanted to be. I had to learn to make friends based on my personality, not my accomplishments. Those three summers taught me so many things about myself. I still use those lessons today.
