Life & Work with Rachel DeBoer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel DeBoer.

Hi Rachel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my blog, Chrysalosity, in early 2019 as a writing outlet. I have always loved to write, but I also wanted to share resources that have been helpful to me. My blog’s name is inspired by the idea that people should always strive to change, grow, learn and be curious in life. Many of my blog topics center around ways to improve your lifestyle through feel-good recipes, easy and accessible home workouts, and all sorts of general lifestyle articles.

I started the blog and all my social media pages in 2019 and still continue to write and share content today. Circumstances in my life have changed so much since I’ve started Chrysalosity, and you’ll find that the content of my blog has changed right along with me. I think that speaks to the theme of continuously evolving through life!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have faced struggles along the way in terms of building my site and getting my content out there. I created everything you see on my site entirely on my own – I even learned to edit some code to customize my site, which is something I never thought I’d do!

Like most bloggers, I’ve struggled over writer’s block when it comes to writing posts, as well as coming up with ideas for posts that resonate with my audience. I have had to learn a variety of strategies to get my content seen, like guest-posting, sharing on socials, and taking online courses to help me improve my reach.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I write blog posts for a predominantly female audience, focusing on all things lifestyle. I love to write about my life as a new mom and some of my most viewed posts deal with my journey toward becoming a mother. I struggled with miscarriage prior to having my first child, and those posts have really resonated with other women going through the same thing. I am a Christian, and you’ll see that my faith comes through in so much of my writing as it is an integral part of my life and worldview.

I also have a passion for wellness and feel that it’s an important part of striving for growth, which is what Chrysalosity is all about. I have shared dozens of workouts and recipes that I use frequently at home in the hopes that others will be able to benefit from these tools as well.

Chrysalosity is a very eclectic blend of lifestyle topics and wellness-focused posts, and I think that’s what makes it stand out from other blogs. There’s something for everyone in my posts, and I try to make my writing voice relatable, engaging, and fun as much as possible!

What makes you happy?
I am happiest when I’m creating, in almost any sense. I love making up fun and silly games to play with my one-year-old daughter. I love singing and writing music, which is something I’ve done since I was a middle-school-aged kid. Of course, I love to write and share my experiences with others through my blog and having Chrysalosity as a side-venture has been such a joy for me. Even if no one read my posts, I’d still be so proud and satisfied in the process of creating this little space of the internet!
