Hidden Gems: Meet Michelle Goth of Culinary Clout

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Goth.

Hi Michelle, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started blogging about food and recipes about eight years ago, right after my son was born.

I had been making big Sunday dinners for our family for years, where I’d experiment with food. I eventually started posting (low quality) photos of those food to my personal social profiles.

When I started the blog, I had no expectations that it would become what it is today, much less that people could make money blogging, it was a labor of love!

At the time, I was working at Ripple Glass in Kansas City, where I was eventually promoted to General Manager. When I left Ripple, the blog was not making a full-time income, but I believed that with more time, it could get there.

Two years after going full-time, my blog has several million visitors each year and earns a six-figure income. Seeing it grow has been unbelievably rewarding and fun!

I have several part-time/contract employees now, and we’re working on bringing my husband into the business as well.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It was incredibly hard to have a side hustle, work full time, and be a new mother. I did most of my work on the weekends and after 8pm, once my son was down to sleep.

Once I started getting sponsors and making ad revenue, my work was more structured and time bound, which was another big adjustment.

As you know, we’re big fans of Culinary Clout, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My business is equal parts publishing and social media creative. I develop original recipes, photograph them, and publish them to my website (www.blackberrybabe.com). Over the years, my presence on social media has grown and quite a bit of my work is published to those platforms as well. In the past year, I’ve added local services in charcuterie for catering of charcuterie boards and boxes and moonlighted as a “Charcutier” at Afterword Tavern in the Crossroads, offering charcuterie and private party catering.

I take pride that my recipes use common ingredients in approachable ways. Increasingly, I’m known for my grilling and smoking recipes. I’m proud to be a woman that knows how to barbecue!

How do you think about happiness?
Every morning, I check the comments and reviews on my blog. It makes me so happy to receive comments that my recipe is a new favorite or has been put in a family’s weekly rotation. That’s the goal!

Past that, it makes me happy to be active (I love OrangeTheory), read and spend time with my seven years old son!
