Today we’d like to introduce you to Zoe Garcia.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always loved the beauty Industry. When I was younger, my sister actually went to cosmetology school but, unfortunately she had a few bad experiences with salons. And, unfortunately no longer works in the industry. For a long time, I thought well if she can’t do it nor can I. So, I went to Dental Assistant school (I know the polar opposite). I graduated, worked in the field for about two years maybe more and liked it but always felt like something was missing and had no clue what is it was. Then, one day I found a lash extensions course and really was thinking about starting. Thinking of my pros and cons. Finally, I decided I will try it will just be my side hussle, something on the side for extra money. Well, that side gig became my passion. I fell in love with lashing! Six months in, I quit my job and went full time then took a microblading course. I’m so thankful for taking that leap for a side gig turning into my biggest dream. Thankful to be a Latina-owned small business is the Kansas City metro area.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It most definitely has not been smooth. I wish it was but, you live and learn. I didn’t realize how hard it is to build your clientele and social media presence in general. I’m not the best social media expert but, remembering to post and keep up with clients has definitely been tricky. But, as for most my biggest struggle will most definitely have to be COVID. I was not expecting it and it hurt my company and was really hard for not working those few months. Finding ways to keep clients, it was hard but luck made through it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Lash Tech and Permanent Makeup Artist. I do multiple styles of both my most popular lash styles are most definitely my hybrids which are a mixture of classic and volume lashes. And most popular permanent makeup is the microblading. I am most proud of my lashes. I’ve come so far. I never thought I’d be here today.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Being outside and playing with my siblings and dogs.
