Rising Stars: Meet Nabeela Fatima

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nabeela Fatima.

Hi Nabeela, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
One of the most perplexing things about the Indian education system is that by the time you are barely 15 or 16 years old, you are forced to make a life – altering decision, which will impact the rest of your life.

My journey is similar. I hadn’t put much thought into my future aspirations when I found myself at the threshold of college.

Halfway through my Engineering course, I realized that Computers were not really my calling. I dabbled with Marketing Management in post-graduation, and after a few stints in various roles, I finally ended up as an RPA developer and I had finally started enjoying my work. I also had a keen interest in Photography and as an allied hobby, I started a Lifestyle blog on Instagram, which helped me gain a lot of recognition and satisfaction. Soon after I started my blog, I moved to USA on dependant Visa which basically doesn’t give work permit. Thats when I started getting more serious about my blog. After few months, I started receiving PR from brands like Nutella, Jane Iredale, bareminerals, Tatcha, Sundowner and many more. I also received PR from local businesses such as Dossier and KCcookies as well.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The problem began right after the Pandemic hit as I had to struggle with creating content. There were a lot of times when the Instagram engagement went very low. It hasn’t really been a smooth road but every bit of it has been worth it. I have gotten a lot of recognition due to this page in my city.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
An age-old saying goes, “In India, first, you become an engineer and then, you figure out what you really want to do!”

Halfway through Information Technology a branch in engineering, I realized that Computers were not really my calling. I dabbled with Marketing Management in post-graduation, and after a few stints in various roles, I finally ended up working in a RPA developer… The work was not directly out of a Computer Engineering textbook. It required me to use and apply all my knowledge that I had acquired from school till my previous job, but I had finally started enjoying my work. I also had a keen interest in Photography and as an allied hobby, I started a Lifestyle blog on Instagram, which helped me gain a lot of recognition.

Most of us don’t realize how privileged we are to be afforded with the simple things we take for granted. I cherish various pedestals in my life as they equipped me with a holistic worldview. There is no magic formula for success. Life is a journey and not a destination, and that is what makes it beautiful. Life is unfair to everyone, and that is what makes it fair!

Unfortunately, our society has been stigmatized with certain dogmas. My journey has taught me that it’s absolutely okay to fall down. However, it’s not okay to not try and get back up again. It’s okay if you don’t fit into someone else’s definition of success. It’s okay if you choose the road less taken.

As long as you trust your own abilities and instincts, you will be fine. So, for now, celebrate the uncertainties and smile at the problems because, without knowing darkness, one can’t appreciate light!

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
As a child, I always loved art classes. I loved creating art projects during my free time. I also enjoyed outdoor activities such as basketball, camping and swimming. I was never into photography until 2018 when I first realized I could click pictures which were aesthetically pleasing to the eyes.
