Meet Dani Cooper of DeepWaters Enneagram Coaching

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dani Cooper.

Hi Dani, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m a people person, and I think I always have been. Every job I’ve ever had revolved around helping and connecting with people in some way, from waitressing to working in customer service to mothering and homeschooling my three kids, to my most recent career leading music for a local church for 17 years. People fascinate me, and I deeply believe that all of us need reminders that we are loved, valuable and seen. Even at the grocery store, I’m aware that giving a smile to a random person can change their day, so I’m always on the lookout for how I can connect with someone, even in a small way. We are all wired for connection, but most of us walk around feeling disconnected from the world around us and even from ourselves.

As I began to sense that my job doing music had me on the edge of burnout, I discovered a book called The Road Back to You by Ian Morgan Cron and Suzanne Stabile. This book centers on a personality system known as the Enneagram, a tool that helps you pay attention to the things that motivate you, so you can understand the reasons why you do what you do and start to recognize the ways your patterns get you stuck and keep you from living with the freedom, wholeness and connection you really want.

I was hooked after I read about my own patterns and felt so seen and understood that I wanted to talk about it with everyone I knew, so they could also begin to re-connect with themselves like I had. Even more than that, I began to grow in my understanding of why the people in my life behaved like they did. Suddenly, things that drove me crazy about my husband, my kids and my co-workers had reasons behind them, and as my understanding grew, so did my compassion and empathy.

I began to imagine a world where people lead with more understanding and empathy than judgment, and I suddenly knew what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While I knew that I wanted to connect with people and teach them how to use the Enneagram in their own lives, I had never started my own business before. Turns out, there are so many facets to business and marketing that I didn’t know (and didn’t particularly want to know!) The learning curve was huge, especially as I continued to teach and care for my kids while I learned the basics of entrepreneurship. Setting up a website, learning the ropes of marketing and content creation on Instagram, and finding clients were my growing edges. All the while, I studied the Enneagram and honed my coaching skills, and ultimately completed an Enneagram coaching certification program in 2018. I began to teach workshops around the Kansas City area and gain one-on-one clients as my business grew. I have coached people here in Kansas City and from around the world! Since I do a large portion of my coaching online, I was thankful that this aspect of my business didn’t suffer when Covid shut down my in-person gatherings during 2020. In fact, people became even more interested in getting to know themselves better during this time, and companies came to me to lead virtual workshops for teams that now worked remotely but needed to keep connected so they could still work together effectively. I am always excited to help businesses build a culture of connectivity and understanding among their employees!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I started DeepWaters Enneagram Coaching as a way to help people connect more deeply to who they truly are and to help them gain more understanding and empathy for their friends, family and colleagues as well. The truth is, when we love and accept ourselves we are better equipped to love and accept other people too! I’m so proud of every person who is brave enough to wade into the deep waters of self-discovery, and I absolutely love encouraging and guiding them along their journey. The Enneagram is the best tool I know for cultivating connection and empathy, and there is nothing the world needs more!

I specialize in coaching individuals, couples and teams who are tired of staying stuck and desire to live with more freedom and authenticity.

I host in-person and virtual workshops and trainings, and I work with individuals, couples of all kinds, and families in my coaching sessions.

I’d love to connect with you! Book your free consultation today to chat about how you can begin your journey back to wholeness in your personal and professional life.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I have found that collaboration is the key to networking in business. Instead of feeling competitive, joining with others who share your passions can fuel creativity and create an amazing support system when the going gets tough and you need encouragement. Being willing to share struggles and helpful hints with people who are either up the road ahead of you or a bit behind you in their business journey is a huge blessing. Community matters and we all have gifts to share!
