Life & Work with Brittany Kelly

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Kelly.

Hi Brittany, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my business in the midst of the pandemic, which most people would think is really crazy! I have been doing florals for friends and family for several years as a relaxed hobby. I have had lots of experience working in the event industry and bridal industry for almost 13 years and have always had a love for flowers in which I’ve fed classes and real wedding experience in my spare time. It wasn’t until I created arrangements for a friend’s wedding in 2020 that I was really encouraged to start my own business. I also felt the need to foster my creative side outside of my normal workday life. What I really wanted to do is bring people joy, connect people through flowers, and bring some positivity to our social media feeds in a time that was quite negative for us. I saw that there was a need to provide this service, and I wanted to bring that to my area through custom arrangements, decor, workshops, and events. So I got my business license and all of my paperwork in order and then made my dream an official reality!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Falling into the official business side of things hasn’t been too terribly difficult since I had been doing work like this prior. However, learning the ins and outs of everything that goes along with a small business owner can be frustrating and challenging at the same time. There’s so much to keep track of and to learn, but it is all about growth and I’m loving every minute of that. I am also learning more about what people like when it comes to their products and what people don’t. It’s all part of the journey and all positive!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a floral designer and I specialize in creating custom arrangements for special occasions, public and private floral design workshop events, arrangements for weddings and other gatherings, and pop-up events. I am most proud of my workshop events and the success that we’ve had selling out many of those as people have loved being able to get out and spend some time doing something different. My goal is to bring family and friends a sense of community, and it’s been so wonderful to be out doing fun activities together again. I also love utilizing my pop-up Flower Bar for different events and build-your-own-bouquet opportunities. I would describe my style as a nod to the normal but at twist on traditional. I love using natural colors and pops of unique flowers that you wouldn’t see in an everyday floral delivery service. Each piece is unique and flowers are hand-selected and curated for each customer. I don’t want my flowers to be standard; I want them to stand out!

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
One thing I know for certain is that people will always have a need for flowers in some capacity- whether that’s to send thinking of yous, messages of love, birthday wishes, and everything in between. It’s the one thing that I can think of that really connects people and is so personal. They’re incorporated in almost every occasion I can think of, always appropriate and appreciated so I can’t imagine slowing down!
