Today we’d like to introduce you to Devon Belanger.
Hi Devon, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey into Whole-Body Electromyostimulation (WB-EMS) began as a personal trainer, working directly with clients and seeing firsthand how this technology could change the way people approach exercise.
The more I worked with WB-EMS, the more fascinated I became by the science behind it. I also began to recognize something that concerned me: while the technology was becoming more widely available, there was a real need for more comprehensive, specialized education for the professionals using it.
WB-EMS is much more than putting someone into a suit and turning up the intensity. It requires an understanding of physiology, electrical stimulation, contraindications, client screening, exercise selection, and, above all, safety. I wanted to create an educational program that took those responsibilities seriously.
That was the beginning of Power Pulse WB-EMS Coach Academy.
I took everything I had learned through my hands-on experience, combined it with extensive research and curriculum development, and began building a comprehensive 40-hour online certification program. I wanted something that professionals could study at their own pace, wherever they lived, without having to travel or step away from their existing careers.
Developing the Academy has been an enormous undertaking. I’ve personally worked through the curriculum, educational materials, assessments, and the many details involved in creating a professional learning experience. At the same time, I’ve continued coaching clients, which keeps me connected to the practical realities of WB-EMS training.
What began as an idea has grown into something much bigger than I originally imagined.
Today, Power Pulse WB-EMS Coach Academy is expanding its reach beyond California. I’m building relationships with fitness education organizations and professional bodies in the United States and internationally, while developing a pathway that combines online theoretical education with optional hands-on practical workshops.
My long-term vision is to travel throughout the United States and eventually internationally, bringing practical WB-EMS education directly to fitness professionals and helping develop a new generation of knowledgeable, safety-conscious coaches.
I’m still very much in the building stages, and there is a tremendous amount of work ahead. But that’s also what makes this exciting. I’ve gone from training one client at a time to creating an educational platform with the potential to reach professionals around the world.
For me, the Academy isn’t simply about selling a certification course. It’s about helping raise the standard of education in a growing industry and giving other professionals the knowledge and confidence to incorporate WB-EMS responsibly into their careers.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not! I think anyone who has started a business from scratch will tell you that the journey is rarely as smooth as it looks from the outside.
One of my biggest challenges has been building something that doesn’t really fit neatly into an existing category. WB-EMS is still relatively unfamiliar to many fitness professionals, particularly in the United States. So I’m not just introducing a new educational program; I’m also having to explain the technology, why specialized education matters, and how it can fit into an established fitness career.
Developing the Academy has also been a massive undertaking. Creating a 40-hour curriculum is one thing, but making sure it’s comprehensive, scientifically grounded, engaging, and accessible to people with different learning styles is another. I’ve spent countless hours researching, writing, revising, and developing the course, often while juggling a full schedule of coaching clients.
Then there’s the challenge of getting an independent education business recognized. I’ve been reaching out to professional organizations, certification bodies, and education providers across different countries. Every organization has its own requirements, application processes, and standards. It’s been a tremendous learning experience, but it requires persistence, patience, and an extraordinary amount of behind-the-scenes work.
Finances have certainly been another challenge. Building an Academy requires a significant investment in technology, educational resources, course development, and the systems needed to operate professionally. I’ve largely been doing this myself, so I’ve had to be resourceful and very selective about where I invest my money.
Perhaps the hardest part has been wearing so many hats. I’m the founder, curriculum developer, educator, marketer, administrator, and the person answering the emails! Some days I feel like I need to clone myself just to keep up.
But I also believe that if something is worth building, it’s worth doing properly. I don’t want to rush out a certification simply to put another course on the market. I want to build something credible, respected, and genuinely valuable to the professionals who invest their time and money in it.
There have definitely been frustrating days, setbacks, and moments when I’ve wondered whether I’ve taken on more than I can handle. But every new professional connection, every encouraging conversation, and every step toward broader recognition reminds me why I started.
I’m learning that building an international education business doesn’t happen overnight. It takes resilience, a little stubbornness, and a willingness to keep going even when the results aren’t immediate. Fortunately, I’ve got plenty of all three!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Power Pulse WB-EMS Coach Academy is an independent professional education platform I founded to bring specialized Whole-Body Electromyostimulation (WB-EMS) education to fitness and wellness professionals across the United States and internationally.
WB-EMS is an advanced training technology that uses electrical impulses to stimulate multiple muscle groups simultaneously while the client performs guided exercises. Although the technology has been established in Europe for many years, it is still relatively unfamiliar to many professionals in the American fitness industry. I see an enormous opportunity to change that through education.
My flagship program is a comprehensive 40-hour, self-paced online Level 1 WB-EMS Coach Training & Certification course. It covers everything from the science of electrical stimulation and muscle physiology to client screening, contraindications, safety protocols, stimulation parameters, exercise selection, and professional coaching responsibilities.
One of the things that sets my Academy apart is the emphasis on understanding the technology rather than simply learning how to operate a particular piece of equipment. I deliberately developed the Academy as an independent educational organization, rather than a training program tied to a single equipment manufacturer. I want students to gain knowledge they can apply throughout their professional careers, regardless of the WB-EMS system they eventually choose to work with.
Accessibility is another important part of my approach. The online program allows qualified professionals to study at their own pace, from virtually anywhere, without having to travel or take time away from their existing careers. I also offer an optional 22.5-hour hands-on practical workshop for those who want supervised experience applying what they’ve learned.
I’m currently developing a national practical training tour, with plans to expand internationally. My vision is to bring education directly to professionals in different cities rather than expecting everyone to travel to one training facility.
Another major focus has been professional recognition. I’ve been working to establish relationships with fitness education organizations and professional bodies across multiple countries, including Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. The Academy has already achieved recognition through the National Council on Strength and Fitness (NCSF) and Canadian Fitness Education Services (CFES), and I’m continuing to pursue additional recognition as the program expands.
What I’m most proud of is that I’ve built the Academy independently, from the ground up. This isn’t a generic course assembled from existing materials. I’ve invested an enormous amount of time developing an educational program that reflects both scientific principles and the realities of working with actual clients.
I also want professionals to understand that WB-EMS can represent more than an additional training technique. For qualified coaches, it may offer an opportunity to expand their services, develop a specialized area of expertise, and potentially build an entirely new business.
Ultimately, I want Power Pulse WB-EMS Coach Academy to become a respected international resource for professional WB-EMS education.
If there’s one thing I’d love readers to remember, it’s that this Academy is about more than technology. It’s about education, professional opportunity, and helping raise standards in an industry that I believe has tremendous potential.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Sometimes the people who make the biggest difference aren’t the ones with impressive titles or business connections. For me, it’s been my Mum and my clients.
My Mum has always been my biggest cheerleader. She’s believed in me through all my different ideas, encouraged me when things haven’t gone according to plan, and listened patiently as I’ve talked endlessly about what I’m trying to build. Having someone who believes in you, especially when you’re taking a big risk, means more than I can put into words.
My clients deserve an enormous amount of credit, too. They’ve supported me, trusted me, and allowed me to develop my experience with WB-EMS over the years. Working with real people, understanding their different needs, and seeing the importance of knowledgeable, responsible coaching has played a huge part in shaping the Academy’s educational philosophy.
I’ve built Power Pulse WB-EMS Coach Academy independently, and there have certainly been times when I’ve wished I had a whole team behind me. But I wouldn’t trade the encouragement I’ve received from my Mum or the relationships I’ve developed with my clients.
They’ve reminded me that even when you’re building a business on your own, you’re not necessarily doing it without support.
