Today we’d like to introduce you to Amelia Taylor.
Hi Amelia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey began in the kitchen at just six years old, cooking and baking alongside my mom and grandparents. What started as a childhood hobby quickly grew into a genuine passion. Over the years, I began experimenting with recipes, participating in competitions, and sharing my creations with others. I eventually had the opportunity to make my signature campfire cookies on *The Kelly Clarkson Show* and began building my own baking business.
Cooking has always been about more than food to me. I love how something made in the kitchen can bring people together, create memories, and make someone feel loved. As I grew older, I started dreaming about turning that passion into a career and finding ways to combine my love of food with my desire to help others.
My life took an unexpected turn when I was diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia at 14. That experience changed my perspective on life and what I wanted to do with it. It taught me not to take opportunities for granted and made me realize just how much I wanted to pursue the dreams I had carried since childhood.
Today, I am 19, a cancer survivor, and a culinary student at the Institute of Culinary Education in New York City. Moving to New York to pursue my education has been an exciting new chapter, allowing me to challenge myself, develop my skills, and take meaningful steps toward the future I have always envisioned.
I hope to continue growing as a chef, expand my baking business, write a cookbook, and use my love of food to make a positive impact on others. Ultimately, I want to create food that nourishes, strengthens, and comforts the soul. I believe my journey has given that dream a deeper meaning, and I am excited to see where it takes me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not. My journey has come with challenges I never could have imagined, especially being diagnosed with cancer at just 14. While most teenagers were focused on school and figuring out who they wanted to be, I was navigating chemotherapy, hospital stays, and the uncertainty that came with being seriously ill. Treatment brought complications that affected my mobility, independence, and everyday life. I also experienced a severe fungal infection that resulted in the loss of my nose, leading to years of surgeries and reconstruction.
One of the hardest parts was not knowing what my future would look like. Cooking had always been such a huge part of my identity, and I worried about whether I would be able to pursue it professionally, especially when my sense of smell and taste were affected. There were moments when the path ahead felt incredibly uncertain.
Recovery has been a long process, both physically and emotionally, and it has required a lot of patience. I have had to learn to celebrate small victories, adapt to unexpected changes, and trust that I can keep moving forward even when things do not happen on my timeline.
My faith in God has been a huge source of strength throughout this journey. I have also learned that asking for help and allowing yourself time to heal are just as important as pushing yourself to reach your goals. These experiences have not made the road easier, but they have given me a deeper appreciation for the opportunities I have today. Now, as I pursue culinary school in New York City, I carry those lessons with me and remind myself how much it means to be able to chase a dream I once wasn’t sure would be possible.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Ameliainthemix?
My baking business, Amelia in the Mix, grew out of my love for creating desserts that bring people together. I specialize in custom cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and other baked goods made for celebrations and special occasions. I love working with clients to bring their ideas to life, whether that means creating a cake for an engagement, designing a themed birthday dessert, or putting together a dessert spread for a special event.
Something that sets my brand apart is my focus on using quality ingredients and being thoughtful about what goes into the food I make. I love exploring ways to create delicious desserts using more natural ingredients, without artificial food dyes, while still making everything feel fun, beautiful, and indulgent. I believe you shouldn’t have to sacrifice flavor or the joy of dessert to be mindful of what you’re eating.
What I am most proud of is how much my business reflects who I am. Baking has been part of my life since I was six, and building something of my own has allowed me to turn that lifelong passion into something I can share with other people. Having opportunities to share my baking on television and create custom orders for clients has been incredibly meaningful, but I am especially proud of the relationships and memories that food helps create.
Ultimately, I want Amelia in the Mix to represent creativity, quality, and the belief that food can do so much more than taste good. It can bring comfort, celebrate life’s milestones, and make people feel cared for. That is what I hope people experience every time they try something I create.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I find inspiration in a mix of resources that help me grow professionally while also taking care of myself personally. As a culinary student, I love watching cooking demonstrations, exploring new recipes, learning about ingredients, and discovering techniques I can bring into my own kitchen. I am always curious about how food connects with culture, health, and the way we care for ourselves and others.
On a more personal level, I love starting my mornings with a podcast while I get ready for the day. I enjoy listening to conversations about personal growth, wellness, and building a life that feels meaningful. I am also a big fan of romance books! Reading is one of my favorite ways to unwind, step away from the busyness of everyday life, and enjoy something just for myself.
Social media is another source of inspiration, especially creators like LenaLifts and Taliyah, who motivate me to be more intentional about my overall health and well-being. I appreciate seeing content that encourages balance, taking care of your body, and building healthy habits. As someone who is passionate about food and wellness, I love learning from people who inspire me to look at health as something that goes beyond just what you eat.
Of course, my faith is also a huge part of my everyday life. Prayer helps me stay grounded and reminds me to trust God’s timing, especially when I am navigating new challenges. Ultimately, I think doing your best in life means continuing to learn, finding little things that bring you joy, and making time for both your ambitions and yourself. For me, that might mean learning a new culinary technique one day and spending a quiet morning with a romance novel the next. I believe both are important parts of building a life you genuinely love.
