Daily Inspiration: Meet John Hudson

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Hudson.

Hi John, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Growing as a kid I faced a variety of challenges. I was dyslexic I had a speech impairment I suffered from a chronic illness called Crohn’s disease. The only thing I felt I was good was basketball and sports. However deep down inside I had a great passion for music.

I started playing the drums when I was a teenager..My older brother played for the church we grow up in for years. Unfortunately I wasn’t as good as him but I wanted to play. So I practice a lot and eventually I became good enough to play for several churches across the local metropolitan area..

While I was playing drums I always had a strong interest in learning to play the bass guitar. There was a woman bass player in the church I grew up in and she was so good. I always reminded her that I enjoyed her playing and asked her would she teach me someday she said she would but I never sat down and actually got lessons.

I just watched her every move as she played the bass. Years pasted and one day I bought a bass guitar and started teaching myself. I got so good so fast that during the pandemic I recorded my first studio album entitled Beyond Expectations in 2022. I also wanted to build and write my own childerns book series.. In college I got help and support for my learning disability and achieved the unthinkable I received (2) masters degrees and became an educator advisor and musician.

I started using all my gifts and talents together and build a educational and music empowerment firm called Focus Driven Enterprises LLC. Currently I have written my 15 the book and the 5th book from my children’s book series called The Fanstatic Adventures of Fred Dexter and Friends and co-wrote a childerns song for the book called Bassin Egg and Cheese a Jazzy New Groove. This is the first time the book features myself in the book playing the bass guitar and teaching kids about the importance of listening to music that would support there mental health in a positive way.

Not a smooth road at all. A lot people try to take advantage of me and my gifts. Administrators and educational leaders didn’t support me or believe in the vision. More important no one gave me a chance to express my heart for youth and to show kids and adults that music is a therapeutic and universal language for to witness.
