Meet Amelia Harshfield of Elevated Ledger

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amelia Harshfield.

Hi Amelia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I had really bad bookkeepers that I hired as a landlord. I just got so frustrated with them. Then when a restaurant that I worked for asked me to be their bookkeeper, I told them I would learn it but probabaly hate it. I ended up liking the work and realized that I could help other business owners with having reports that their tax preparer can file taxes with, help understanding the reports each month so they know their numbers, and having someone who responds quickly to their answers. Business is hard. Business owners don’t need more stress, so we are happy to help support them with their books.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been a lot of learning for me. Bookkeeping is different for different industries, and I’ve been teaching myself along the road. But I own my mistakes and overly communicate with clients about what is going on in their books.

With wanting to serve clients the best was I can, I realized that I needed to niche down into just financial advisors, marketing agencies, and consultants. That way I can be more of an expert than someone who knows just a little bit about the books.

We’ve been impressed with Elevated Ledger, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
About Elevated Ledger

Elevated Ledger provides done-for-you bookkeeping for consultants, financial advisors, and marketing agencies. We’re based in Kansas City and work with clients nationwide. We work exclusively with these three industries and with small teams of 10 or fewer employees on QuickBooks Online.

You didn’t start your business to become a bookkeeper. We keep your books current, double-check the work, and flag what matters, so you can focus on your clients instead of managing QuickBooks.

What we do and what we’re known for

We run every client through the Elevated Bookkeeping System™:

Identify your plan: a books review with a clear plan to get set up, caught up, or fixed.
Prepare your reports: accurate reports for your info and tax time, with transactions sorted, no duplicates, and nothing missed.
Second eye review: your books are checked by a different person than the one who prepared them.
Translating your reports: monthly reports with notes on what happened that month, plus a flag on anything that needs your attention.
Answers when you need them: responses within 48 hours.

We’re also known for getting books caught up fast, whether they’re 6, 12, or 24 months behind.

What sets us apart

We only serve three industries, so we already understand your business.
Every set of books gets a second-person review, so mistakes get caught before you see them.
You get answers within 48 hours, not radio silence.
Our monthly reports explain what the numbers mean, not just what they are.
We’re QuickBooks certified, so you don’t have to be.
Our 60-day money-back satisfaction guarantee is backed by clear communication and accountability.

What we’re most proud of

We’re a bookkeeper who pays attention, answers your questions, and cares about getting things right. As one client put it, we treat your business as if it were our own, seeing both the big picture and the fine print.

What we want readers to know

You take care of your clients. We’ll take care of your books. Book a free 30-minute appointment to see if Elevated Ledger is the right fit.

Your site says books caught up in 10 days with “2 spots available,” but your letters and client email say 14 days. Pick one before this goes out.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I’m tend to take more risks than others. I’ve taken on clients without knowing how to do their books, and realized it was way more complicated than I expected. But I figured it out and the books have been marked as correct by a tax preparer. I’ve over paid for properties that I bought and had to figure out how to make money on them. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn’t.

I believe that if you are willing to learn from situations and take calculated risks, you should be ok. You can’t win if you aren’t willing to play the game.
