Meet Thomas Drake of KC Sleep Health

Today we’d like to introduce you to Thomas Drake.

Hi Thomas, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My wife was diagnosed with sleep apnea over ten years ago. She did not want to use a CPAP. I am a dentist so I educated myself on how oral appliances can help a person improve their snoring and sleep. Then I made one for her and her snoring reduced. I have since helped many of my own dental patients and patients who have been referred to me. Eight years later, I now have a second practice called KC Sleep Health. I love helping people improve their sleep and bringing couples back together who were previously sleeping separately.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Some of the struggles have been getting patients to see that they have a potentially life threatening condition. Many people do not want to get tested. I have gotten better at really getting the message across.
Getting my staff onboard in ,especially in the beginning, has been challenging at times but now I have a great team. It really helps having my staff see how happy the patients are once they are getting a better night’s sleep.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
KC Sleep Health offers Airway Evaluations which directs the patient on the correct sleep path and Home Sleep studies that you can do in the comfort of your home. Furthermore, we deliver oral appliances that fit like a retainer. I am a Diplomate of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and there are only few dentists who have that title.
We can evaluate the patient who is just starting on their journey and help them get tested and treated. There are several other sleep specialists that we can refer to the patient to as needed. We enjoy working with other doctors to ensure the patient is getting the best care.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Constantly be willing to learn, and desiring to help the patient. Resilience is key too.
