Life & Work with Marquitta Alberty of Kansas City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marquitta Alberty.

Hi Marquitta, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Yes, well I started braiding hair about the age of 13 in middle school. My mother didn’t know how to do a French braid or any other styles other than ponytails. Me and my sister decided to just start experiment with our hair and turned out to be hair artist. I continue to keep up with my hair my mother‘s hair, my nieces and nephews hairs sisters and brothers as well as my children, but that’s about it. I may have took a client here and a client there but mainly family. About 10 years ago, my pastor Daniel Simmons had prophesied to me that the Lord said if I went to her school, I would never have to worry about my finances again. I was a little afraid, but I finally came to the conclusion that I didn’t wanna look back 10 years from now and I wonder what if. So I decided and Transformed Barber and Cosmetology Academy was the school I was led to . I graduated about 10 years ago. I worked at a couple of hair salon, renting a booth. And today I own my own hair salon. I’ve been at my salon for almost 5 1/2 years.
The name of my salon is TBQ creations, and I attribute my success to the Lord, blessing to works of my hands, my face and placing people in my life who were instrumental, helping guide.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not always been a smooth road. I have faced many hardships, including not being able to work much as a single mother so I can focus on my education and becoming a cosmetology. I also experienced moments where work was slow and I felt like throwing in the towel, but my faith optimism assumptions that God was gonna do what he said kept me going.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
