Today we’d like to introduce you to Rico Gonzales.

Hi Rico, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born January 25th 1994 in Kansas City, Missouri. Growing up I was raised on 35th & ARMOUR (Midtown) I was exposed to the conditions of my environment as an adolescent in the projects. As I grew music always stuck with me as a child it became like a second nature to me as it described part of the experiences that I was growing up around. I was always very interested in music and how you can paint a picture of your reality using words over beats. I grew up listening to all kinds of different genres of music like R&B, Soul, Rap, HipHop, Jazz, Blues ETC. In junior high I attended Paseo Middle School which was better known as a Performing Arts School. I was a creative writer. I also played instruments in the musical band such as a trumpet where I learned how to read music. I also sung in the choir so music has always been apart of my life. I love music since I was a kid because it gives the voiceless a voice to be headed for a lifetime and generations after that. Like for example I grew up around my father playing E-40 and Tupac along with my older uncle’s and family members playing N.W.A, TooShort,MasterP. Just a lot of music was always around me. As I grew up I knew music was something I wanted to do because I love expressing myself and being able to articulate what’s going on around me and how I’m feeling or what I’m feeling thinking all of it. Music has been my therapy for as long as I can remember and it’s been fun learning and growing as I go.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest struggles I’ve faced are losing the ones that can’t be replaced! Like the deaths of my love ones who are no longer here to be with me through this journey which makes it a hell of a struggle to find a way to keep going without the ones that I started with. Definitely has been the biggest struggle in my lifetime. I just use the music as a place to vent and the losses as lessons and motivation to keep going for them. It’s definitely been a bumpy road but anything worth having is worth fighting for and won’t be easy. So I take it as it comes and roll with the punches I’ve never been the type of person to run away from hardship. I embrace the challenges and the pain, it makes me go harder for the ones who are not here anymore.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I do music I’m an artist, I specialize in painting a picture using my words. I’m known for being a family man who stands on my morals principles and values. I’m most proud of being a father. What sets me apart from others is that a lot of people are created players. I call em created players because they are not really who they say they are. If you know me then you know I’m exactly who I say I am and I stand on all business!

What matters most to you?
Family, I said family because that’s all I have and that’s all I need at the end of the day. Is FAMILY!
