Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianne Jewell.
Hi Brianne, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Gosh I could answer this so many different ways – how I started in the helping field was a calling from my own upbringing – to not only understand myself, my family of origin and the world around me. To understand what I couldn’t control and what I later came to know as trauma, attachment wounds and how our nervous system continues to be drawn to familiarity, repeat patterns and protect in all sorts of adaptive and maladaptive ways. How I got to where I am today? The ability to offer empathy, compassion, and walk alongside other humans without judgement, without overpathologizing every symptom or experience, and seeing the person first and how hard it can be to break these patterns and to heal. Today – I am in private practice specializing in the treatment of complex trauma and eating disorders. I have been actively supporting, listening and treating clients, patients and people of all walks of life for 20 years; spending over a decade in acute care settings like residential and hospital settings before meeting the amazing Amy Sullivan who is one of the owners of Bellatore Recovery where I begin to add the specialty of treating eating disorders. I was blessed to have this woman come into my life when I was already enriching my own experience in more nervous-system based approaches and deeper ways of healing such as EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) and TCTSY (trauma sensitive yoga). I have been at my current office for almost a decade working with a brilliant group of women and a population I am truly passionate about.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been quite the journey and an absolute privilege working in a variety of settings, often alongside people and families in crisis and bearing witness in some of their toughest moments – I cannot and could not do any of it with out a strong support system both personally and professionally; without doing my own work to heal and prioritizing my self-care, boundaries and balance.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a licensed specialist clinical social worker with extensive training/certifications in EMDR (eye movement desensitization, and reprocessing), TCTSY (trauma center trauma, sensitive yoga), CEDS (certified eating disorder specialist) and recently completed my SEP (somatic experiencing practitioner). I treat young adults and adults with a variety of diagnoses, histories, and life circumstances. My private practice is inside Bellatore Recovery, an eating disorder treatment center in Lenexa, Kansas. I have had the privilege of joining this office since it opened almost 10 years ago and worked alongside amazing experts in a the field where I have continued to learn, grow and expand my own practice and clinical expertise. I have the privilege to walk alongside people during their healing journey, learning about their lived experiences and honoring their own agency through the healing process.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
There is hope, it is possible… You are not too much, you are not broken, you are not bad, you are not defective… It is possible to heal and live the life you deserve… You are enough just as you are, you are worthy and I will continue to help hold that hope until it becomes accessible through your authentic self.
