Today we’d like to introduce you to Riane DiMarco.
Riane, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always known I wanted to be a hairstylist from a young age. Truly, I was that little girl doing hair and makeup and it never stopped. So after graduating high school I went straight in cosmetology and got to work. I’ve now been in the industry 16 years.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been growing pains over the years but that comes with the journey of growing a business. I started working in the industry before social media was what it is today. So growing my clientele was a lot of hustle. Referrals programs, passing out cards, reaching out to clients who I saw as ideal clients. Finding salon homes during each new season of life. Each one helping me grow into the stylist I am today. Fine tuning my skills. Discovering more of who I wanted to be as a stylist and what I want to specialize in. It’s been a journey with bumps along the way but it’s all lead me to where I am today.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a hairstylist located in downtown Kansas City at salon Novello. I specialize in lived in color, blonding and brunettes. As well as extensions and event styling. I have so many moments I’m proud of but a few that come to mind would be styling during the Hallmark Christmas Experience for Andie McDowell, and styling The Real Housewives of Orange County , Emily Simpson.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Social media is a great tool to finding a mentor in the beauty industry. If you know what you’d like to specialize in I’d highly recommend looking into your local stylist who also specialize in that area. Keep an eye out for those looking for an assist. Don’t be shy to reach out, ask questions and connect with those who inspire you.
