Daily Inspiration: Meet Joyce Watts

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joyce Watts.

Hi Joyce, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Joyce Watts, the owner and baker behind Boujee Baker in Kansas City, Missouri.

My journey in baking didn’t start with some big fancy plan. It started with a love for creating something that could make people smile. Over the years, baking became more than just something I enjoyed it became a passion, a craft, and eventually a business.

Before Boujee Baker, I was the owner of Big Momma’s Bakery, which was located in Raytown and Crown Center. That experience taught me so much about running a bakery, serving customers, and most importantly, creating a place where people wanted to come back again and again.

When the opportunity came to create something new, I knew I wanted it to be different. I wanted a bakery that reflected my personality fun, bold, sassy, sweet, and a little boujee!

And that’s how Boujee Baker was born.

Boujee Baker is about taking classic comfort food desserts and giving them our own special twist. We’re not afraid to have fun with flavors, presentation, and new ideas. From our house Corned Beef and Smoked Chicken to our cheesecakes and baked goods, and our newest addition, the Cinnamon Roll Bar, we’re always looking for another way to make dessert an experience.

But Boujee Baker is about more than just desserts. It’s about community. It’s about creating opportunities, supporting other small businesses, partnering with schools and organizations, and giving people another reason to smile.

I’m building Boujee Baker with the belief that you don’t have to be a huge corporation to make a huge impact.

This is my story, my passion, and my dream and I’m just getting started.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not. Building a business has been one of the biggest challenges of my life, but it has also been one of the most rewarding.

There have been plenty of ups and downs along the way. I’ve experienced the challenges that come with owning a bakery from the financial pressure and rising costs of ingredients and supplies to the long hours, staffing challenges, and the constant responsibility of making sure the doors stay open.

Starting over and building Boujee Baker after my experience with Big Momma’s Bakery also came with its own challenges. There were moments when I questioned whether I was doing the right thing. Starting a business takes courage, especially when you know there is no guarantee that it will work.

But I kept going.

I’ve learned that entrepreneurship isn’t about having everything figured out. It’s about being willing to adjust, learn from mistakes, get back up when things don’t go as planned, and keep moving forward.

Every challenge has taught me something. It has made me more determined, more creative, and more intentional about the business I’m building.

Boujee Baker wasn’t built overnight, and it certainly wasn’t built without obstacles. But every setback has become part of the story and I’m proud of how far we’ve come.

The road hasn’t been smooth, but it has been worth it. And I’m still baking, still growing, and still dreaming bigger.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
What started as a passion for baking has grown into a business where I get to do what I love every day, create desserts that not only taste amazing but make people feel special.

We’re known for our cheesecakes, creative desserts, and our newest addition, the Cinnamon Roll Bar, which has quickly become a customer favorite. I love taking something familiar and putting a Boujee Baker twist on it. We believe dessert should be fun, beautiful, indulgent, and memorable.

What I’m most proud of is that Boujee Baker is more than just a bakery. I’m building a business that is rooted in community, creativity, and connection. I want Boujee Baker to be a place where customers feel welcome, where other small businesses can find opportunities to collaborate, and where we can create partnerships with schools, organizations, and our Kansas City community.

What sets us apart is the personality behind the brand. Boujee Baker is an extension of me sassy, fun, creative, confident, and just a little boujee. We aren’t trying to be like everyone else, and we don’t believe dessert has to be boring.

I’m also proud of the fact that I’m not afraid to keep evolving. I’m constantly thinking about new products, new experiences, partnerships, and ways to give our customers something they can’t get anywhere else.

At the end of the day, I want people to remember how Boujee Baker made them feel, not just what they ate.

We don’t just make desserts.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
There are plenty of ways to work with and support Boujee Baker and trust me, we’re always ready for a good collaboration!

We’re looking to connect with businesses, schools, event planners, organizations, entrepreneurs, and community partners who want to create something exciting together. From catering and wholesale desserts to pop-ups, private events, corporate orders, and creative business partnerships, we’re open to opportunities that make sense and bring value to everyone involved.

What sets Boujee Baker apart is that we don’t just want to sell you a dessert we want to build relationships, create experiences, and grow together. We love collaborating with other entrepreneurs and finding ways to put great businesses in the same room.

And supporting us can be as simple as placing an order, booking our catering, becoming a wholesale customer, bringing us into your school or organization, sharing our name, or sending someone through our doors.

At the end of the day, Boujee Baker is about more than desserts. It’s about community, creativity, entrepreneurship, and making everything just a little sweeter.

So if you have an idea, an event, a business, or an opportunity where you think Boujee Baker belongs let’s talk. We’re always ready to make something sweet happen.
