Meet Lisa Robinson of Kansas City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Robinson.

Hi Lisa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into counseling was shaped by one of the most difficult experiences of my life…the unexpected loss of my husband. In the midst of grief, uncertainty, and rebuilding a future I never anticipated, I learned what it means to lean on God’s strength and trust His guidance one day at a time. Through that season, I discovered the power of having compassionate support and a safe place to process life’s deepest struggles. I also sensed God calling me to walk alongside others facing their own challenges. What began as a personal journey of healing grew into a passion for helping people navigate grief, life transitions, relationship challenges, and questions of identity with hope and faith.

My core belief is that Jesus brings true healing. But many times, we learn to identify with our pain. My philosophy as a counselor is that through faith and the right support, we can learn to awaken to a new life filled with joy; the one that God truly has intended for us, regardless of what we have gone through.

One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned in my own life is that joy is a daily choice, especially during painful or uncertain seasons. My faith and my relationship with Jesus are the foundation that guide me through every season, reminding me that hope can exist even in the midst of hardship. What do you enjoy most about your work? The greatest joy in my work is walking alongside my clients as they navigate their own challenges and witnessing the moments when hope begins to return…the moments when they see themselves, their circumstances, and their future through a new lens. Seeing the light return to someone’s eyes as they move closer to healing is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.

I love adventure, new experiences, and following where God leads—even when it requires taking a step of faith. That is what brought me to the North Kansas City area, where I had the opportunity to help plant a new church, Abide Church. Being part of this community and sharing the stories of what God is doing here has been such a meaningful part of my journey. At home, I share life with my three cats: Neville, Tina, and Henri, who keep things interesting and bring plenty of joy and laughter to everyday moments. I enjoy spending time with others, exploring new places, and finding ways to connect with and serve the community around me.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As a counselor, I can often struggle to believe that I have the knowledge and expertise I need to be able to help people in all the ways they need. I continue to work on growing in this area, but also believing that God brought me into the counseling field and he will continue to use me and speak through me to others.

The unimaginable loss of my husband was the most difficult challenge I have ever faced. But, I also believe it has brought me to a place where I can better understand others in their grief and suffering, help guide them through with God’s help, and come to a place of healing, joy, and peace.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a Christian Therapist and I believe that with the right support and God’s guidance, people can become stronger than the storms they face. I specialize in helping individuals navigate the unique challenges of being single and the many forms of grief and loss so that they can grab onto peace, joy, and healing.

I utilize the following types of therapies: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Motivational Interviewing, and integrate them with a Christian, Biblical worldview. I work with teens, adults, and couples to deal with issues such as: communication, grief, identity, those struggling with being single, relationships, boundaries, marriage, anxiety, depression, and more.

I am passionate about helping people find their true identity in Christ. I love helping singles find their sense of purpose, meaning, and individual calling God has given them no matter what your relationship status is. I believe we do not talk often enough about how to manage life changes, how to set and maintain healthy boundaries, and how grief and joy can coexist as we walk through loss with meaning, purpose, and the peace that only God can provide.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was actually very shy growing up and everyone called me quiet and wondered what I was thinking. I grew up going to church, have always believed in God and my faith has always been very important to me. I have always loved to read and learn and have an interest in music and dancing. As I got older, I decided I didn’t want to be stuck in the box of quiet and shyness and became a cheerleader to help push me out of my comfort zone. I even cheered a year in college at a small Christian college in Canton, Ohio. From there, I gained a sense of adventure and got an undergraduate degree in Nutrition and Fitness at Mizzou. After college, I lived and worked at Corporate Fitness Centers in Connecticut, Arkansas, and then came back to Missouri and pursued my Master’s in Counseling. I moved to Gladstone for a new adventure in May 2026 as part of a church plant called Abide Church in North Kansas City. My personality has changed over the years from shy and quiet to adventuresome and curious. I will always be an introvert who needs time alone to recharge, But, I also love people dearly and can’t wait to catch up over coffee with a new friend or try a new restaurant or dance class. God has always been an important part of my life and my faith guides everything I do, including my counseling.
