Daily Inspiration: Meet Spaceman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Spaceman.

Hi Spaceman, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started making hip-hop and R&B music when I was 13 in my bedroom in Lawrence, Kansas. A few years down the line, I decided to start leaning more into the hip-hop aspects of my music and rapping. The name Spaceman was an old nickname given to me by my mom because I enjoyed stargazing and looking up at the sky at night when I was young. The feeling of lonely nights in suburban Kansas bled through into my music a lot overtime. Since 2024, I released two mixtapes, one EP, and one full length professionally recorded studio album.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Dealing with the stigma around rapping in an area with many people who have never seen struggles has been a major part of my experience, making music. Financial struggles while young helps shape the way I make music now and also make me feel deeply connected to my community in Lawrence Kansas, where I grew up.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
People who listen to my music will probably tell you that the laid-back, chill-out vibe is my main calling card. I experiment blending jazz, rock, hip-hop, and more in all of my songs
I believe what sets me apart from others is my unwillingness to fail or give up my craft.
MY NEXT ALBUM –
Entitled “moodmania” –
Coming this year, it has a very definitive vibe and sound – taking heavy inspiration from the classic boom-bap sound paired with jazzy samples.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Social media has been one of the biggest helps, pushing my music and reaching more people. I love to discover new artists and people from all around the country who I can collaborate with or bond over the love of music with.
You can find me on TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube and more.
