Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Hockett.
Hi Megan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always had a desire to be crafty starting at a young age. You could always find me doing some sort of craft project. My amazing husband bought me my first cricut for Christmas just before our son was born (2019), I dipped into making signs and shirts and really stopped after our son was born. I picked it back up for special occasions like our cousins memorial race, Super Bowls, births of of babies, ect. Fast forward to the beginning of 2024, my co workers kept asking me for shirts and finally encouraged me to make my own Facebook page so they could tag me easier on posts. In the first year we grew our business to 200 followers and started slowly branching out into the motocross world for designs. In 2025 we set a goal for 1k followers on Facebook and we doubled it. Since then we have doubled in size again and expanded to offering not just graphic t shirts but embroidery, laser engraving, and even some 3D printing too. We wouldn’t be where we are today without our friends and family encouraging and believing in this dream of ours. We hope in the next year I can quit my full time job and do our business full time
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been everything but a smooth road. There have been many sleepless nights, stress filled moments and plenty of tears. We have officially ran out of space in our home office and home in general so finding working space can be hard at times. We juggle 2 full time jobs, 2 little kids, my husband and our son racing motocross, our daughter dancing and a business that more than doubled in a year is slightly overwhelming. Yet, so so rewarding that I truly wouldn’t change a thing, well except maybe more sleep. We have added new machinery so the learning curve of new product, wholesalers, pricing, and software have been a huge challenge we have faced as we continue to keep up with new trends.

Checkered Threads was formed in 2024. We specialize in completely custom merchandise primarily for the racing community, businesses, and every day life. We pride ourself by creating long term business relationships by truly getting to know our customers and their wants/needs. We spend hours working with our customers to make their items exactly what they want.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Finding someone who knows the industry you are in and believes in you is truly a life changer. I have been fortunate enough to have a good family friend in the same industry as me. She had been my helping hand, shoulder to cry on and truly someone we look up to.
