Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Nolan.
Hi Sarah , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always felt the call to write, but I never in a million years thought I would write a book! My parents got divorced when I was young and I always looked to other people for my worth – men mostly. It wasn’t until I really sat down with Jesus that I realized my worth and identity is found in only God. Nothing in this world would fill me up, I had tried it all. Drugs, sex, alcohol. I was always left empty. When I really began to study the Bible I came to the realization that everything I ever wanted to know was in there. I began to replace the lies I had believed for so long, with the truth found in God’s Word, that’s when it all changed. This is what my book is about and I can’t wait for other people to experience freedom as well!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been a road with many turns. I had to live a full life before I came out of agreement with pleasing other people. It was hard for me to find a good writing rhythm in the midst of marriage, work, life, and beginning the very early stages of opening a coffee shop. Life is crazy and all I could think was, “I’m writing a book in the middle of everything else?!” But God was faithful. I continued to heal from part of my story during this writing process and I just know other women will experience healing and freedom as well.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I currently work in a coffee shop in the Kansas City area and it’s been a great learning experience. I left ministry to work in coffee and quickly realized coffee is ministry too. That’s why I’m so excited to open our own coffee shop in the future. Until then, I’ve been working on a passion project with my book. I love nothing more than to see people, women specifically, grow in their walk with the Lord. I love seeing the change and transformation happen within their hearts. It’s a beautiful privilege. I hope this book carries that out, and the reader feels like they’re sitting with me in a local coffee shop enjoying a cortado together.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
God first. He saved me. I am a sinner and I needed the blood of Jesus to rescue me. Without his work on the cross and His word, there would be no book.
My husband. Who continues to be my biggest champion and supporter. For those that know him know it’s a blessing and an honor to have J.R. Nolan in your corner.
My friends/business partner/family. They’ve pushed me towards Christ, loved me in the hard, and don’t let me backslide. That’s true biblical community.
