Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Luxem.
Hi Christopher, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have been playing music professionally since 2005. Lived in Chicago and Brooklyn working odds and ends jobs over the years, but still consistently performing and writing songs. In 2013, I decided to move back home to Kansas and base myself out of the Midwest to be able to travel more efficiently if I needed to go East or West. I shortly after moving back got a job at the Raven Book Store as a bookseller. Over the years, I’ve worn many hats and been a factotum, but then became a part owner in 2021 and then a co-owner in 2024. I still play music consistently at venues and art galleries, as well as nursing homes, assisted living centers, and schools. Books and music have always been a huge part of my life and somehow I’ve finalged an existence surrounding them and having them surround me.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Faced different types of adversities over the years, but probably one of the most effective was finding out my Biological Father wasn’t my Dad when i was 34.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I play guitar and sing in the most basic description. I loop my guitar and voice in kind of a tightrope routine based on balance and intuition and trust in my own abilitiles. I am definitely most proud of my approach to music and my belief that all music experience is obtainable. Even in the mistakes there is music to be found and can be malleable to fit a desired outcome. All apsects of music are valuable, whether performing or just listening, both are as important. Having performers and artists are just as crucial as a someone who just wants to soak in the vibrations. It’s how I feel about books too, I really believe there are types of books out there for everyone. Even someone who says they hate reading, I could find a book that I believe could change their mind.
